Because I know a number of us visit this site regularly, this is some interesting news... Does this mean there are two more slots available for us at LGB?
American Airlines will end two daily nonstops from JFK
FORT WORTH (AP) — American Airlines will end daily nonstop service between New York's Kennedy Airport and Phoenix and Long Beach, Calif., on Nov. 1.
The planes will be shifted to American's hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the airline said.
Fort Worth-based American, the largest U.S. carrier, and sister airline American Eagle plan to add at least 70 daily departures at DFW by next summer. After the expansion, American will offer 540 departures at DFW.
American announced the end of the two nonstop routes Monday, but it actually signaled the JFK-Phoenix change late last week, shortly after low-fare carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. launched flights between Phoenix and New York.
Henry C. Joyner, American's senior vice president for planning, said the airline would continue to move aircraft to locations "where they can be used most productively and best serve our customers." He said such decisions were especially important as the airline deals with high jet fuel prices.
American operates two daily flights between JFK and Long Beach and one from JFK to Phoenix. The airline has 11 other daily nonstops between JFK and Los Angeles.
