Jet fuel in LBS

Just wondering why in jets you talk about fuel as LBS and in piston planes its gal?

Jet fuel's volume varies too much with temperature. It would be too inconsistant to measure it in gallons, especially with aircraft that can carry tens of thousands of gallons.

It's more consistant to measure it in pounds. That's a better indication of the total BTUs on board.
