I just updated my application online. I'm just curious what the process is after submitting. Do you get a "thanks... we'll be in touch" letter or do they just call if interested?
Is it necessary to have someone on the inside pulling for you? I know like most places it is helpfull, but is it a "prerequisite"? I know I'm in the ballpark as far as qualifications are concerned, I just hope I get a chance to play!

LOR

I spoke with jetblue at the atlanta airinc seminar. The reps there made it VERY clear that without an inside recommendation the chances of being called are very slim. I know, a lot of people have been called without any inside help, but this is from a jetblue rep yesterday.

I'm not sure how this got miscommunicated, but exactly the OPPOSITE is true. An inside recommendation has NO influence over being selected for an interview. It is all done by computer based on your qualifications. The fact that you have an LOR from a JB employee doesn't even factor in until AFTER you have passed the interview.

If you think you heard otherwise, please PM me with the details.

No that's not exactly true. I was a JB rep at the conference and that's not what we put out there, nor what Dean says.

It comes down to this: When Dean does his database search, 300 or so people usually come to the top of the list. This is where you set yourself apart from everyone else. You have to get your name to rise to the top of the database to even be considered. No inside connections are considered when the database selection is run. This database is something that can change but it involves a search for hours, type of hours, aircraft flown, education, etc. Pilots are then brought in to help the HR people finalize the 70-80 candidates we're interested in interviewing. This is where they look at your career progression from left to right seat. Were you an instructor pilot, aircraft commander, career first officer, check airman, chief pilot? What did you do to make yourself stand apart from the rest of the crowd. Finally, if there are 10 candidates left and only 2 interview slots to hand out and across the board all pilots are equal, those with the inside referral will get "the call" first. It happens exactly in this order.

Lots of people interview at JB who do not have an inside connection. I didn't know anyone at JB when I interviewed. I know this is a grey area, but we tried awfully hard to dispel that rumor this weekend. I'll keep working on it from my end.

Well, I spoke with one of the several JB people (Assistant Chief Pilot, Director of Pilot Recruitment, and four pilots) at the seminar. They called a handful of people at a time from the line and we all asked questions and shot the sh1t for five minutes or so. I asked if an applicant with the bear mins had the same chance of someone with an A320 type and 11000 hours. The clear answer was NO. It was presented that without an inside recommendation the computer just does not spit out a name randomly. During the airline seminar, the JB powerpoint demo stated that applicants are picked on a "competitive basis" out of the data base. I wish that all of this was not true, just passing on what I heard, trying to save some people 200 bones.

FWIW, I started typing this prior to the last post, I am distracted by Wild On E! right now so my reply is just a little slow....

Stay Seated,

E-mail Dean for your own piece of mind. I was one of the 4 pilots and can't believe you may have heard that.

Not to rant, but honestly PM me your name and/or e-mail Dean. I want to know specifically who told you that. It's not the policy. I can't be any more specific than what I have already written on this forum.

Happy landings

Hey Joint Ops

Thanks for taking the time to respond to the posts.

I was at the ATL seminar and everything Joint Ops is saying is true. If nothing else I felt like a rock star groupie trying to get an autograph. I look at the JetBlue guys/gals and there is no doubt in my mind that this is the place to be (at least for me) What a first class operation!!!

Again thanks Joint Ops and I could only hope to get the chance to fly with you someday.

Tim,

Hey I do remember you too. I was the one without the coat! Thanks for confirming my comments. Stay seated sent me a PM so I think we've cleared up any misconceptions.

It's such a huge difference from my past at brand X, that we all want everyone to be just as jazzed about their potential career as those of us who already work there.

Happy landings

If you see Burton ask him How the "Band" (spoken with a surfer dude dialect) is doing? LOL

Anyhow, great memory. In a Sea of 400 Suites, I'm not sure how you could remember anyone! I'm not sure if remembering me is a good or bad thing. Stay Cool in those HOT summers and as I said before, I would love the chance to fly with you someday. And there is NO DOUBT JetBlue is the place to be......

Thanks Again
Tim

"They called a handful of people at a time from the line and we all asked questions and shot the sh1t for five minutes or so." "I asked if an applicant with the bear mins had the same chance of someone with an A320 type and 11000 hours." "The clear answer was NO." " It was presented that without an inside recommendation the computer just does not spit out a name randomly. "

Nowhere in your post do I see where anyone from Jebtlue indicated that you need to know someone. You asked if someone with the "bear" [sic] minimums would measure up against someone with an A320 type and 11,000 hours. Well, I think they answered you honestly. How did you surmise that this means that you need to know someone? When I hear things like "it was presented that without an inside recommendation....." my question is, who presented the situation like this? Can you be specific?

Yup, I'm a dumbas$...

Sorry about the misinformation, what jointops posted is correct. I heard LOR and since I do not have one it sounded like a long shot. I will pull my head out of my rear prior to my next post. Good luck everyone!!

That my friends, is what you call integrity. Hope he gets an interview because when he does, with that attitude, he'll get on for sure.

See ya

I agree, and thanks to Stayseated for the PM clarifying the situation. Good luck! By the way, I didn't know anyone at Jetblue either.
