In another thread someone mentioned that at Jet Blue it is a five year contract. Can any True Blues give more specifics? Is it a five year contract off a master contract of payrates, or particular to each contract? For instance, do 2000 and 2004 new hires have the same starting pay rate? When are those pay rates re-negotiated? At the end of each individual five year contract? Whenever the master contract is re-negoatiated? For instance, an airline will typically have a four to six year contract (no hecklers, please!) followed by the re-negotiation period for the master contract: what takes place at Jet Blue? Will each individual have a new pay rate offerred, or will they simply be renewing off a master pay schedule, and, if so, when does it get re-negotiated?

Finally: What is the actual language of the contract renewal process? Completely at the perogative of the company and employee? Is there a contract completion bonus? Vesting issues for items like 401K?

It is a five year contract that has pay scales going out to 10 years. Everybody hired operates off that contract. Rumor has it a new one is being put together by mgmt. as we have guys that will be coming up on 5 years fairly soon. We have no input on it.

Thanks for the reply a320! It is fairly unique. As I read that then, there are no real provisions for increases other than a management decision? I guess my question still running along the lines of are there 2% cost of living index increases, or is it just the flat scale, and if it is just the flat scale, it would seem there are no provisions for that flat scale to be increased every 3-5 years with a whatever% cost of living increase? Am I reading that right? And, of course, no one has hit the magical 10 year mark, but does one's pay simply remain at that mark indefinitely, until a new master pay scale is proffered?

Also, I realize there is company matching on the 401K, is that company matching immediately vested? I assume it would be since it is not a % contribution, but is it tied to finishing the contract?

No, over the ten year scales there are increases every year. Here they are.

The ten year pay scale was distributed after some folks said they'd like some sort of commitment of employment after the first five years. From reading the e-mail that contained the announcement of this pay scale, it seemed to me years 6-10 were merely a temp plate.

No, the 401K is not tied to finishing a contract. It vests over a given time (sorry I don't remember what it is, and I still haven't found my contract since my move. Ok, I haven't looked too hard.)


No, it is a percentage (100% of the first 3% you contribute). Profit sharing, on the other hand, is 100% vested.

The company's contribution to the 401(k) is vested at 20% a year. The profit sharing is 100% vested. Hope this helps.
