JetBlue 190 Question

I just had a jumpseater on my plane the other day, he's flown the CRJ, ERJ and the B737. He's had one of those careers going from one airliner to the another. he currently flies the E190, and said that it is his favorite aircraft of them all. I was wondering if any of you guys share the same sentiment as he does? Especially if you've flow some of the other products from Boeing and/or Airbus.

Just curious.

It's a pretty easy job flying the E190, but I certainly wouldn't say it's my favorite!! If the cockpit had a bit more room and the seats were even marginally comfortable, I might agree.... I must admit, I've become addicted to the HUD.

Did you hear the rumor that the seats are going to be totally redone?

Flew the 135/140/145...I see they diddn't include pilot comfort along with pax comfort in the E190. Like sittin on a 2 by 4.

It's true, new seats are in the works and will be replaced by Embraer I believe.

USAirways spent millions of dollars re-doing cockpit seats through out the fleet back in the 80's.

Pilot's out on disability for back problems got their attention I assume.

Airbus wins hands down over the Embraer 170.

I think the bus cockpit is more comfortable than even the 757/767. Not quite as big, but the seats are better and the tray table kicks a$$.

If you guys removed the huds you would have more headroom but I guess its a tradeoff. No crap about the seats. Some are getting replaced but the old ones are worse than sitting on metal bleachers. I have no doubt that i'm doing some kind of nerve damage to the bottom of my legs (that most likely knowing my luck will come back and slam me later on in life). After about 2 hours I get pains on the bottom of my legs and in my shins from the seat. I didn't really mind it much back at MidAtlantic as I was on reserve and flew about 15 hours per month. Now however I have a line and am back to the old 80 to 85 hours per month. Its time to get a seat cushion. Any recs??

The bus cockpit is more comfortable than the MD11. And a lot more ergonomic.

I sat in the 190 cockpit when it was at JFK for its first PR visit. JB 190 guru came up and asked me what I thought of it. Told him I had over 1300 E120 hours and the seats feel the same, bad. I'll never forget how uncomfortable they were especially by the end of the day and 4 to 7 legs. His coment was something like, we've heard that a few times already and we will see how the operating crews hold up.

I have about 1300 hrs in the 170 and I can unequivicably agree that the seats were a complete afterthought and are ridiculously uncomfortable. Overall the plane is a joy to fly, actually the best plane I have flown. There are a number of parts and components though that they cheaped out on that break on a regular basis. The vendor for the seats insists that they tested them adequately and that they are just fine for all length of flight segments. What it really comes down to is who will pay for replacing them. The vendor says no, embraear says no and our company (Shuttle America) says no, so thats the real holdup to a better seat. At around 500 hrs I got tired of waiting and not wanting to destroy my back I purchased a seat cushion with a zip on lumbar support from the aviation vendor Oregon Aero. These seat cushions are great and took away almost all of the discomfort that I experienced from the seat. Anyway, check out www.oregonaero.com and just follow the links to the seat cushions. I picked the 1" seat bottom cushion for a 5 point harness and the half back zip on lumbar support. I also purchased the nylon soft case to carry everything in. It set me back about $230 for everything but I consider it money well spent considering the time I might have had to take off work for severe back problems.

I used to use the www.oregonaero.com seat cushion flying 135 in SE Alaska, it really saved my a--. Now I use it on my tractor! If you have the time drop into their shop and let them explain their ergonomic theories to you.
