Need to order a Jeppesen Kit for my Private Pilot's training. Was looking at both the 141 and the ULTIMATE kit. http://www.jeppesen.com/wlcs/application/commercewf?origin=category.jsp&event=link(browse)&wlcs_catalog_sourceKey=wlcs_categories&wlcs_catalog_destinationKey=wlcs_siblings&wlcs_catalog_category_id=AT1A1A

The main think I see different in the ULTIMATE kit is that it comes with the FLIGHTSCHOOL software and the Manuvers software as well. Plus there is an ELECTRONIC flight computer and also a nicer pilot's bag. But the ULTIMATE kit is double the price of the 141 kit.

So what I ask is the following...

1.) Is the ULTIMATE kit worth the extra money for what it gives you?

2.) How good is the FLIGHTSCHOOL and manuvers software compared to other software options out there?

3.) Would you say the FLIGHTSCHOOL software is better than getting the Jep DVD's for PPL training?

Just want to make the right decision up front so I have all my training materials. I don't plan on attending a ground school class at my flight training school. Instead I will just be doing the pre-briefing, flying lessons, and post briefing with the instructor.

It's not worth the money. You don't need an electronic E6B and you can read all the manuevers in a book IMO.

why do htey have an electric E6B and a metal manual one?

like what's the difference?

by the way, I am getting the ULTIMATE for $322.95

so maybe that will justify it..?

I'll sell you my old stuff if u want it, you'll need to get like one or two books because i need some of them still. But i'll give ya a good deal....

We sell the brand new Jepp Private Kit with the bag, E6B, etc for $200.

yeah but this is NOT the ULTIMATE Jep kit. This is probably just the 141 kit.

and I can get the 141 kit brand new for: $155

and I can get the ULITMATE kit for $323

But you asked my opinion of whether you should use the ultimate kit, then went on as if I didn't say anything at all. Not that I'm right or wrong, but why bother posting if you already made up your mind?

well it's not that I totally made up my mind, it's that I dont' know if for the extra $160 it's that big a deal... cause I am probably going to end up buying the nicer Navigator bag anyhow, and that'a nother $100 right there.

So I figure I am getting more things than just the bag with the ULTIMATE kit....

I was mainly asking, how do you guys think the FLIGHTSCHOOL software is? and also how about the MANEUVERS software?

Just a thought. Find out what your instructor/flight school recomends. They probably have a syllabus (Sounds like they use the Jepp from what you're saying). Your instructor will probably want you to buy the textbook and the supplements to it if that's what you're going to use. If you're doing a seperate ground school, they'll tell you what books to buy for that and you'll probably be able to skip buying a seperate set. As far as other goodies go: A headset (Don't go cheap on that-- I bought the ASA pair my flight school recomended for $150-- and I'm reminded of my mistake every time i fly) An E6B-- don't waste your money on an electronic one, or even a metal one for that matter. The cheapo carboard ones work just as well. You can get the electronic one after your checkride if you do any kind of work with it that requires that kind of precision. Possibly a fuel strainer if the school doesn't supply them in the airplane. As far as bags go, just buy a backpack or something cheap that suits your fancy. I'm guessing that you could probably buy all the supplies above (excluding headset) for about $120, and most of the money would be for the Jepp text books. Flying's expensive, save yourself a couple bucks where you can. Those kits you see in the various catalogs are designed to scam new student pilots who don't know better. Shop around and see what you can get individually.

yes my school using the Jep 141 kit.. and they wanted to sell that kit to me for: $250 and I say.. "no thanks".

but I was thinking that the FlightSchool software might be well worth the investment because I work on a computer all day for profession, so I can easily sit there and do the FLIGHTSCHOOL software while at work. NOw if I am wipping books out and stuff like that, it might look a little fishy to my boss, etc... so as long as my eyes are on the computer screen, it pretty much looks all good...
plus I"m a computer nerd.. lol.. so I like everything I can do on a computer... regular books are boring.. I like interactivity.. lol

Get the Gleim test prep software
My lord its great, my average time per question is 8 seconds. It's getting me through flight school right now...
