Any one else think MR. Career contract pilot's comments in AIN were a little ridiculous. Can you tell he doesn’t like ex airline guys. What’s a matter never get hired by any, with that kind of attitude… hummmm.

Its funny he make such a big deal of saying "O" instead of ZERO to the foreign controllers. I just finished a trip, and to a one ,Gander, Shanwick, and London controllers would respond with O, and not ZERO and we were using ZERO when calling in with our call sign.!!!!

linky?

I see alot of blame on airline pilots undercutting "professional" contractors rates but who hires these "inexperienced" pilots?

Maybe Mr. Beck should be complaining to his former customers.

Yeah, I thought he came on a little strong too. There are certainly differences between corp/121, but picking on syntax is a little much-I hear just as many of us corp guys sound like total idiots on the radio as airline.

I saw that article in AIN and thought it was a little out of line but I'll give Jeff the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was simply misquoted. Perhpas his comments were not meant to seem so harsh. On the other hand what is it with pilots who use the terms "Gander, Gander" when they make an initial call to these stations. Talk about sounding dumb. To much Hollywood in their DNA I guess.

It was the way I was taught by the guys who flew the N. Atlantic in Connies (when the Connies were new...). TC

P.S.--I still say "Gander, copy Shanwick..." when making the report at 30W, too. ;)

Is it not ok for there to remain amongst us a few characters?? Or at least character in our voice? Fer cryin out loud!

Gander, Gander......Copy Shanwick........oh, zero, niner, fife whatever?? So long as your message is clear. Talking to Gander or Shanwick or ARINC I think if ya speak slowly enough they get it and so do those interested enough to listen up. Piarco, Cenamar, points south or east..... is a whole different story.
