Jeff Beck Mr ZERO

Generally, the guys that have a problem with him are the exact former airline guys that he beefs about. We have one of these self appointed "experts" on international flying. Funny how screwed up things get when the dispatchers aren't there to work up alternates and ETPs, not to mention monitoring duty and flight times.

This certainly does not apply to all former airline guys. But this and other blowhards sure give the breed a bad name.

I am an airline guy (bus captain) and I found nothing offensive in the AIN article.

I suspect that all of Beck's criticizms are on target.

If any of you run into Beck tell him that there is at least on airline captain who would have no problem being his switch monkey.

(I flew corporate in a previous life and one guy I flew with long ago said that you needed to accept the fact that we [corp pilots] were glorified chauffers. People who have a hard time with this concept probably won't be happy flying a corporate airplane.)

(and yes I am fully aware that we airline dudes are glorified bus drivers.)

Sorry, no B.S. That's how I HAD to do it (when I was an F/E making the reports or an F/O once I moved up in the food chain...). I think things are a little more laid back these days.

P.S.--I don't know Jeff but he flew with a friend and was good company on a layover and did a great job.

No offense intended. Simply poor choice of words...probably after a few to many demon rum drinks.

I'm looking forward to meeting this Jeff fellow sometime as I suspect his words were taken out of context and like mine, seemd a little harsher that meant.

I read the article as well... I think Mr. Beck's points were right on.. I contract flew for a little over a year in various Falcons, from the 10 to the 900... Im not an "old salty dog", but I was taught by some... I remember standing next to a very good friend of mine when he was asked to come fly an aircraft under a contract basis for a few months, while the company found a full time crew... He told the gentleman his daily rate, and the man smirked and told him that was WAY too much.... He responded by saying "If you cant afford to play the game, don't play". He shook the mans hand and we walked away... But once again someone else went and flew the plane at a less the standard daily rate... "Slut pilots" are what I call them... Not only do they hurt contract pilots, they hurt all of us...

Never met J.B. or any who has, but I'll back the guy. He seems legit!
Very well his words were taken out of context, as some have said.
I might meet the guy since I'm in the large cabin aircraft, and have my words for lunch. Who knows?
For now, I hope some relent on posting personal attacks.
