I am a CL-65 driver and was considering buying a B 737 type rating and applying to Jetblue and Swa in 2004. Both are great companies, but looking at the overall picture for Captain upgrade in 8 to 14months, I think JBLU would be the one for me. That if I can get an interview. But I don't want to mess up my chances with having a B737 Type with no previous experience in the aircraft, I don't want to send the wrong message to the JBLU Hr Department. But if I don't get a call from Jetblue, I would like to keep my options open for other 121 carriers. The reason why I ask this that I am getting close to the 1000pic requirement.

I think that is a choice that you'll have to make on your own. Currently, JBLU has 7000 applications on file, therefore the competition is rather challenging. Anything you have on your ticket will be considered valuable. JBLU is looking at hiring 240-300 pilots next year and a little more than that in 2005 due to the projected addition of the ERJ-190. On a good note, having looked at the breakdown of the last class of new hires, there continues to be a good mixture of former military, furloughed major airline pilots, regional carriers, cargo carriers, and corporate pilots. I'm not current with SWA's requirements, but I don't think you need the type for the interview, but you'll need one before you start training...

Having a 737 type rating will not hurt your chances at JBLU just like having a A-320 type rating will not hurt your chances at SWA.

Upgrade time is probably going to push two years untill the EMB's come then it could be a matter of months.
