I think there is a lot of info posted on this site regarding this, but here is what I know.
A degree is highly preferable.
Bus time is not required, but time in a glass cokpit helps.
Competitive times vary widely, but are substantially higher than the minimums. More info has been posted on this site if you are willing to search. Types of aircraft flown, and quality of flight time will make you more competitive.
121 time helps, but we have enough pure military and pure corporate guys to prove that it is not required.
I didn't know anyone, but quality (you really know the person) recommendations might help.
Last, but not least, you have to be a good fit for the company. All the flight time in the world can't change that.
