A friend and I were talking about how one pilot on a turbojet must be 60 years old or less to fly internationally as PIC. And because of this reg.(non-US), his Holiday weekend was ruined, because he had to take a last minute trip to cover another company airplane. (Both pilots were over 60).

Then he stated a JAA reg that I had never heard. And that is a JAA pilot can only hold two type ratings at one time. And the pilot must give up one to get a third type rating.

Has anyone else heard this reg?

A JAA typerating is only valid if you are current on type. This means that you unlike FAA can hold only two transport types at any given time. Apparently the wise people at JAA has deemed it unsafe to fly more than two types at the same time. The 727 typerating I aquired eight years back is no longer valid. New groundschool and sim and the whole deal again. In a way it makes sense. would you be safe jumping in a DC4 in which you were typed 30 years ago? Maybe! maybe not.
