Oh my gawd it is official. I have found the STUPIDEST THING *EVER* IN THE HISTORY of printed publication...

From the March 2006 issue of "PHOENIX" Magazine. http://www.phoenix-magazine.com/phoenix/welcome.do

What do people in the Phoenix Area Make:

Aviation

Aviation Mechanic - $46,530
Airline Pilot - $91,394
Air Traffic Controller - $80,650
Flight Attendant - $50,970
Flight Instructor - $80,446
Ticket Agent - $26,640

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! OMG ROTFLMAGDAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE in the HELL do I go to be a CFI for $80K a year? I will do that in a heartbeat! HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!! Imagine what you would get paid to fly checks in a place like that! WOW!!!!!

HA HA HA HA!!!

Oh my gawd... I am speechless. I barely broke $20K as a CFI. $80K? Put down the CRACK pipe. I guess if you are John Travolta's personal CFI you'll get $80K but that's about it.

Boy these people are waaaaaaaaaay off.

Hey Dude, That has to be a typo -- I think you're supposed to omit the 0 from the $80K fig for the CFI --everybody knows Mickey D's emp make more than CFIs

When you see these things they are talking about Flightsafety, SimCom type instructors. People that do type ratings, not initial ratings.

When we send two pilots to 3 1/2 days of recurrent @ $18,000 + I hope the instructors make that much or more. I don't think they they are referring to the 400 hour instructor in a C-172.

Hey Legacy, was that you holding us up a 180kts on the SID out of Vegas Wednesday afternoon? ;) TC

Not me, TC. I left Vegas early Wed and was home with the kids by the time you got held up.

I did manage to get stuck behind a Beechjet (he was stuck behind someone else who was stuck behind...it was a zoo) and they held us to 280 KIAS for him, but not 180.

:)

As for Flight Instructor pay... I only know half a dozen Simuflite types compared to the hundreds of 172 instructor types out that way. My mental image of a "Flight Instructor" is some poor college kid with no food on the table...

I didn't realize working for FSI and such was so lucrative. Impressive.

I always thought it would be a good place to go if I could no longer hold a First Class medical for some reson but with still able to teach. I actually enjoyed being an instructor back when I did it, even at $15 an hour.

They might I don't know. I haven't had to worry about it too much yet and hopefully never have to I would rather keep flying. Seems odd to me though why would a Level C not need one but a Level D would?

You do not need to hold a medical to act as an instructor under FAR part 142. In fact, you do not need a CFI, CFII, MEI or AGI either. As for pay, I don't know about the full-time guys, but when I was working part-time for one of the big training centers I made $40/hour just starting out.

You should seriously write a letter to that magazine and correct them. That is a serious mistake and they should fire whoever handles their research... Write that letter...

They certainly don't deserve it-they are in my opinion the most incompetent bunch of controllers I have ever had the misfortune to work with in the US airspace system!

The 1 2 3 rule works great for PHX atc...

1 cloud
2 planes
3 hour delays

They are the WORST place in the world when it comes to flow.

I always thought the Level "D" instructors had to have a First Class Medical.

You never know when one of those guys wil have the "big one" and ball that thing up;)

As for PHX area instructors, the only ones who answered problably are the guys who work at the training center for America West ... err, US Air.
