Heard at one time Island Air was hiring street captains. Any truth to that rumor? If so, are they still hiring and what are the requirements?

My former flight instructor left the company I'm at now for Island Air about a year ago. I believe he made reserve Captain in 4-5 months after getting hired. I believe you have to have at least 3000 tt to get typed in training. Not a bad deal if your high time and not seeing any upgrade at your current company.

You can kiss those days goodbye. Cutting one line in Jan. and already hearing that the January inital groundschool is cancelled.

No more insta-upgrades for the time being.

If you meet the minimum requirements for captain they will type you in training (3000tt 1000multi). Make sure you have the time before you get here or they will not type you. One person in my class had 2900 total with 2000 multi and they would not type her.

As far as hiring goes, right now I don't think the loads are as high as they would like. Probably because we charge the same as AQ on the same routes so you can go from A to B on a jet for $100/each way or you can go from A to B for $100/each way in a turbo-prop.

I think the instant captain upgrade is a thing of the past at WP for at least a little while. I wouldn't come here if that's the only reason you want to work here.

rumor is they are returning the -200s and going to have a fleet of 7 total.

The original plan was for something like 15 but the water's getting cold and there's shrinkage going on. May end up being the 4 a/c 3 line airline again.
