Just read that US Air will cut 2500 more jobs? Does this mean more pilot layoffs?

Also (just wondering) if US Air wants to substitue regionals on its routes - and US Air Pilots fly the regionals - how are the payscales determined?

shon:

The real answer is that pilot furloughs are usually known well in advance of these public press releases. There are over 300 pilot furloughs scheduled for January 7th and another 145 in the first quarter. Management is currently asking for more productivity changes that could result in additional furloughs. Bottom line is that it will take a 1988 hire date to remain employed.

Hellas,

Nice attitude. Do you treat your passengers this way too? Nice customer service... You slam someone asking a legitimate question about the mix of pilot/non-pilot furloughs recently announced at USAirways.

FYI, this is a friggin informational forum - do you get it? Had Shon7 known the answer to the QUESTION he would not have asked it - get it?

Your attitude sucks. Leave your lame ego at the door. If you can't contribute positively to the forum - DON'T ANSWER - otherwise you are wasting our time and you look like a jerk...

AND, if you are going to use the word "genius" disparagingly in your post, at least spell "they're" correctly....

Back to the original question...management came to all the unions last week and handed each group a lengthy hit list that pretty much guts each groups contract. For pilots it would make our contract one of the worst of any jet carrier. All unions must agree to these terms and they have one week to decide.

Well, you can guess what the response will be so check your papers this coming week.

Word is they may ask the BK judge to impose the new contracts, which for pilots would likely lead to hundred of additional layoffs, possibly down to Sen. # 2500-3000 or so. These are 1986-87 hire dates.

Dixieflyer,

Starshipper is right - and you are an a$$. Hellas has a crap attitude - people ask questions on this informational forum - is that difficult to understand? Is it? I bet you both are fun to fly with...

Looks more and more like U's management is prep'n for fragmentation and liquidation under the guise of "saving" as many jobs as possible.
