Here are some transcript excerpts from SWA's latest earnings conference call:
Ray Neidl of Calyon Securities asked SWA CEO Gary Kelly about the airline's relationship with ATA.
Kelly responded that yes, they are "happy" with their relationship with ATA. But when asked if the airline has considered an equity investment in the airline, Kelly responded, "no." Kelly also added that Southwest took in about $14 million in revenues as a result of their agreement with ATA, but he added, "We would like for them to grow, add more flights, and deliver us more passengers and vice versa."
Jim Parker of Raymond James asked Kelly about whether or not the airline has plans to fly to Mexico. Kelly responded that yes, it does, but that all the plans are centered around bringing in codeshare partners to do so. The airline has no intention of "flying its own metal" internationally. Kelly also added that the airline is looking at potential codeshare partners in addition to ATA; "if ATA doesn't fly all the routes we want, we'll be looking at other partners, and it could be some Mexican partners."
