Report: Mesaba's fleet to shrink
Wednesday January 11, 3:07 pm ET

Northwest Airlines' regional partner Mesaba expects its fleet to be cut in half, according to media reports. Leaving the Minneapolis airline with 50 34-seat turboprops and cutting some jobs, the move will help Mesaba in its efforts to survive, Mesaba President John Spanjers told the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune Tuesday. Mesaba might also bid on regional flights for Continental Airlines as part of an effort to develop a new business plan, according to the Tribune.
Until recently, Mesaba operated a fleet of 100 planes for Northwest.

and XJT's 69 airplanes will go fly for Northwest. I'm glad all our regionals are just big ho's that don't care who we're sleeping with

Everyone will be after that flying. If Express wasn't getting booted out we'd probably be bidding on it too. Here's a grand prediction: Somebody will bid it below their cost, then they'll go to pilot group and say "hey we got this great deal-growth for everyone- but we need you to take concessions in order to get it". And pilots will do it, and Larry will be happy.

Are you kidding me????

You must be one of those Delta Connection Academy Fags

Actually I'm not...

But I really appreciate somoene who has flown "singles" and has less than 1000 hours trying to talk down to me... If you worked for an airline you would understand how losing flying can be upsetting.

Go preflight your 150.

I would say a more realistic scenario would be Mesaba flying the Avros in and out of Aspen for UAL, replacing AWAC's 146s.

But WTF do I know???

The hell it's CALs, it's XJT's all the way.

CAL owns everything: schedule, destinations, airplanes, jetways, crewrooms, infrastructure, etc.
XJet exist on paper only and with the 50 seat market the way it is, were heading for the shredder...

Won't happen

It won't happen. NWA leases the planes and then we lease it from them. I doubt NWA will let us take their planes and fly them for UAL.

Last year, Mesaba spent 6 million dollars on a CRJ program before Northwest said, " on second thought, nawww... you're not gettin them." It seems like XJ would want to bid on CRJ flying as opposed to ERJ. And, even if we did get some CAL flying today, we'd have to get a new ERJ program online and most likely wouldn't be ramped up to fly them til at least September.

Guaran"damm"teed that as soon as everyone starts taking those pay cuts management is asking for, things will start happening. I can't believe some of our unionized workers already have.

Perhaps what JCH is alluding to is the fact that CAL is shopping for a new turboprop operator to take over CLE from CommutAir. Being the only operator in the CAL system lacking cabin class aircraft I would think that they are a likely target to be replaced. I'm sure Mesaba can drop aircraft onto the CLE scene quickly. That's a hell of a lot faster than CA has managed to with their bungled program of getting bigger aircraft (what is it like 8 years or something now).

I'm not wishing any ill will on the group over at CommutAir, I use to work there myself. But I would guess that this is more likely the flying that Mesaba would be going after.

Really? So, what is ExpressJet's two-letter airline code that this flying that you "own" is operated under? Sorry, but if it's operated under the CO code, then you don't own it at all. That's all CAL flying, and as soon as the exclusivity clause expires, XJT doesn't own any of it.

I would bet that MANY on this board have erroneous information on their profile to throw people off.

Your a bit off here. Licking your chops has got you a bit confused about the agreement we have with CAL. There won't be any more a/c leaving for some time. Even after the 69 a/c exit there will ONLY be 204 left.

And to be honest with you the DOT uses XJT's RU two letter code for the flights anyway.

Only Airport monitors use the CO code..

Great try though.

Actually, it is CAL's capacity and flying. CAL management can award that flying to any carrier that it wishes to for 2007 and beyond.

Yep.

And what does the code on the flight plan have to do with who owns the routes and/or planes and/or gates?

That's what I thought.
