Is Jet Blue going to ever have a west coast base? I'd love to work there but I'm sorry I'm not willing to commute or live on the east coast. I know, I know, it doesn't sound like I want to work there much but... I really do
I heard AA was still holding several landing slots at LBG even though they are not operating flights in these slots. It is my understanding that the LBG airport authority will not authorize anymore slots and thus limiting JB's ability to grow in that arena. It sounds to me like JB needs to file suit against LBG and get those American slots of force AA to fill them. (All based on rumors)
There is a lot of information (rumors aren't good for much)available in the Long Beach press regarding Jetblue and AA in LGB (I don't know if any of those papers are available online). Jetblue got most of the slots and some settlement was reached between Jetblue, AA, and City Hall. AA got a few slots in the settlement.
I don't know what to tell you if you aren't willing to commute for a job in this market. Even if there were a base, how do you know that you could ever hold it? I guess I'd say....good luck.
There has never been an announcement of a base on the west coast. Everyone expects that it will happen, but nothing has been decided yet.
Again, rumors aren't worth much. Why would we need Skywest to feed us? We aren't a hub and spoke airline.
Regarding JetBLue and a possible west coast domicile, I can say from personal experience you should be very wary of taking a job with an east coast airline based on the existence of a new west coast presence. Me and several hundred other USAir pilots will be happy to fill you in on the details!
And, no; Jet Blue isn't USAir, but USAir was the "Jet Blue" of the 80's in many ways.
