Air Cobra:

"Mohawk"? Merged with Lake Central (and a couple of others) to form USAir. That was a pretty good gig for the Mohawk guys.

"Northeast"? Acquired by Delta. No comment necessary.

"Empire"? Acquired by Piedmont. The pilots were stapled (I believe--it was certainly contentious, though) but still did ok.

I got hired into the F-27 at ARW with around 2,000 hours in 1987. I'd been a Shorts CA before that so that probably sold them.

You are right about the hiring and the state of the industry "in the good old days". Now, you can get to a "jet" in record time. But that's where you'll stay for a long time. The RJ FO position is the new F/E...

There's more opportunity but less payoff these days. TC
