I met the Skipper through our little flying club in Scappoose. He would come in and intimidate the hell out of you as a 600 hour flight instructor. I then bit the bullet, and called him for a tailwheel endorsement. It was the best training I ever had.
He would then just stop in and say Hi and check out what was happening in GA. One Christmas I stopped to the office, and there on my desk was a little package that just said To:Brett, From: Skipper Santahorn. I still treasure that book. As I got into my first freight job (he talked me into flying Beech 18's) he always would take time, and seemed truly interested in my career.
When my father called and told me he had passed, it was truly a sad day. My brother witnessed the accident. He totally changed my career path (for better or worse).
He is greatly missed.
