Is there any way to find out when a unit should be back from deployment? I am attempting to get in contact with a reserve fighter unit that got deployed a month or two ago. I was just wondering if this information is confidential or not. Thanks

Possibly, but more it's more likely that no one will really be sure when they're coming back until they've gotten home. Even in the best of times, deployment returns are hard to nail down. They always seem to slip a week or so one way or the other. No, strike that, they always seem to end up being later, never, ever sooner.

It depends somewhat on if it is a scheduled deployment (an AEF cycle) or a contingency deployment (guys getting shipped over when OIF kicked up). For our upcoming AEF cycle to support OIF, I can tell you exactly when we're leaving and when we're coming back - the dates aren't classified but the location is (as is generally the norm). Our return date is the date we are scheduled to be replaced by an already specified squadron so it is fairly firm. However, there is always the chance of our replacements being short-noticed tasked for something else and us having to stay longer. With contingency deployments, there generally isn't much set up in terms of replacement for a while, which is why some guys who shipped out to participate in the first raids on Baghdad are still there.

stlpilot I was just wondering if you were from STL, and what unit you are going for, I am from MO and trying for a couple units in the state.
