ATP? You mean like...the school?

I don't think so...referencing their 90 day "fast track" course, they make no promises of job or interview...just the training required for the ratings contracted

Unless you're talking about something completely different...

yeah..the school. sorry I didnt clarify that.

no harm done...

I'd say no...but that's based off of the 90 day program that I looked into and the other training programs I looked into.

Just like the type schools...sure, you can go and get your B737 type there...that and a quarter will get ya a cup of coffee...not necessarily a job.

IMHO

I was just going to ask that same question!!

Seriously though, I went down to RAA in PHX yesterday, and was not truely impressed. It was the first school I looked at, and now I have somethng to guage the rest by. They claim that by the time you give them $70,000.00 you will be PPL, COM, COM multi, CFI, CFII, MEI, with 500 hrs TT, and 32hrs in a Level D CRJ sim along with 80 hrs grnd school, and 80hrs grnd school and 60 hrs in a 737 "stationary" sim. And type rated for the same CRJ. They also claim 98% placement with regionals like Air Canada, Wisconson, Comair, Mesa, Skywest, Pinnacle etc.....

Can anyone bring some truth to these claims?? Inquiring minds want to know!!

I am considering ALLATP, RAA and a few others. I just wanted to know if the type rating was worth anything, or just a useless piece of paper. Have any of you gents, and ladies, done any interviewing of applicants from any of these schools? Does one have a better (more useful) program that the others??

Beware of any school that trains for any vocation that claims that high a placement rate.

Define "placement." Most people start a vocational school believing that the training received will lead immediately to a big-time, high-paying job. But the school's definition of "placement" may mean being placed in a part-time, temporary job that pays minimum wage and not some high-falutin position that pays big bucks.

My paralegal school also claimed a 98% placement rate. I remember seeing grads who were still trying to be hired six months out of the school. It took me three months, with really no help from the school. My school was somewhat remiss about stating that big-time jobs go to experienced paralegals.

By the same token, perhaps RAA grads have made it to the regionals you mentioned, but not immediately upon graduation. They likely put in their time instructing, etc. to build the hours needed to qualify for the regionals. Piloting is just like any other job. With few exceptions, you need experience to get the job and you need the job to get experience. Moreover, in the case of Air Canada, you must be a Canadian citizen with Canadian licenses to even have a crack at it. I know from knowledge and experience that Canadian companies are very strict about hiring their nationals first for jobs before considering "immigrants." I believe that may be a legal requirement.

Caveat emptor. I'd suggest you PM our member, lowtimeguy, about RAA, if you're still interested.

Jeep- 70K???!!! Please don't spend that much on your ratings. Go to your local airport, find a good mom & pop flight school and do your training there. Find an old C152 for your private and a well equipped C172 for your inst. You can get through your MEI for MUCH less than 70K (try 1/2 that amount). You'll appreciate the money you save when you get your first low paying regional or PT135 job. I can't imagine the RJ/737 training amounts to much more than CRAP. I just saw an ad for RAA when I was at the coffee shop today. It had some suave looking co-pilot standing next to an RJ and said something like "0 Time to Regional in 90 Days!". PUHHHLEEEEZ!

Good Luck Jeep!

That's a lot of CFI's maxed out and a LOT of planes sent to 100hr inspections in a SHORT amount of time...

The only game in town here has 2 C-172's and they get $85 an hour for em. Then the CFI is another $35. Even Block time of 10hrs or more is $78.
