Irony is burning 11,000 lbs. to fly a family of four from their vacation home on the islands, then watching them get off the plane on the mainland and climb into a Toyota Prius.

I wish I was kidding, but I'm not.

I have seen this as well. Seems like this is more of the Hollywood types, whereas the regular rich guy drives either a Suburban or Range Rover. The business guy will drive the Mercedes.

Actually, they did look sort of Granola-ly and hairy. And they were from California, though not Hollywood.

It's just funny. They burned about as much gas in this one trip as the average family does in three or four years of driving to work and to soccer games and the store. To think that driving a hybrid will do anything to reduce their carbon footprint ... good luck!

Had a movie producer going from TEB into SMO for the Oscars last year do the same thing. At least he has a sense of humor about it and actually made a joke about trying to make up for burning so much Jet-A.

Some things just make you scratch your head and walk away with a smile on your face. I flew a family of four into TEB this summer for the Al Gore's Live Earth concert. On top of that they were about a half hour late and wanted us to go as fast as we could, so we did. That was irony and both the FO and I were chuckling for the rest of the 6 day tour.
