... that two billion dollar companies with thousands of employees, billions in debt, legal hurdles requiring legions of lawyers and accountants can merge, or agree to merge, in the span of a few weeks, but airline labor contracts take 2, 3, 4+ years?

When its good for the thieves on the boards, they'll agree in a day; but when they have to hand over money and increase their costs, they'll delay till hell freezes over...

It's the gubment that drags the contract talks out. If the Railroad "Forced" Labor Act didn't make prisoners of labor, it wouldn't be that way. But, as you know, the airline managements own the politicians and the FAA.

Spot On!

Ah, but no one forced anyone into this. And... we'll have to wait and see who got paid what. If the stock-holders don't like it, then there will be mucho dinero lost.

A birthday present maybe?

Why? Because there's a 30 million dollar payday for Tilton.

"The phone call that would result in a merger creating the world’s largest airline came on UAL Corp. Chief Executive Officer Glenn Tilton’s 62nd birthday.
Continental Airlines Inc. CEO Jeff Smisek had read press reports that UAL Corp.’s United was in talks with US Airways Group Inc. He didn’t want to lose Houston-based Continental’s “best partner for the future,” he said today in an interview.
I gave Glenn a call and told him I was a much prettier girl,” said Smisek, 55, who will become CEO of the combined carrier."

That's gonna be a lot-o-scabs on one list...

Isn't sad that UAL had to merge with CO to once again be back on top! Hopefully it doesn't fall as hard the second time around!
