The word on the line is that they are coming but they are still hung up on contract terms with the vendors. Is there anything to this rumor? I'm more than ready to ditch these paper charts and manuals.

Word is they're tied up in OUR contract negotiations. Who ever thought of that needs to be fired.

Why wouldn't it be? It's a negotiation with the company....they know we want them too, so I'm sure they are asking for something in return....hope they were told to pound sand....then on to next item. We need to scope out those pesky dc9's and 319's taking our flying to aug, tri, Fay, etc

I've heard so many on-again/off-again/on-again rumors about iPads that I feel like Charlie Brown, almost believing that this time Lucy won't pull the football away at the last second.

Latest I had heard was from someone who just attended recurrent, he said mgmt is still "seriously considering" them, but they have decided we need to "return to profitability" first, so we're going to wait a couple more years before making the investment.

I understand it will only take two years to completely recoup the entire capital investment, and then our chart costs will be MUCH cheaper. But leave it to modern management philosophy to only be looking at the next financial quarter, and not long term cost effectiveness.

My chart case now weighs in at 30 lbs, and my luggage is about the same. I wonder what the back injury costs are for the company.

Approx 2.5 mill for a year, that is for combined company. That is the number for pilots back injury alone (takes in account for medical stuff, time loss, insurance,......more). The mngmt need these iPads in the flt deck more then we do, so hell NO, I am not giving them anything in return....we can still operate as we do without giving pay or QOL up for something they need more then we do!!!!

Guys....clowns....whatever you prefer. Company mandated job materiel are not negotiated for by our union. We do not "give up" contract terms to "aquire" Ipads, pods or anything else.

Not directly, but we all know any issue that has such a large a cost/benefit is absolutely alluded to/ negotiated, addressed, whatever you want to call it.

Signed, clown

Myth. Everybody thinks it's about saving paper, shipping costs, whatever.

Think about it, would Jepp/LIDO slit their own throats? They're gonna charge what they charge for paper. I believe that when UAL went to airside, the price Jepp charged was actually MORE than the previous way. However, the cost savings for UAL came from the below......

American also did a study on how much you save long haul when you take 60 lbs out of the plane per leg. Seems nominal but it adds up. There are also many productivity advantages to using efb's.

Moderator, Why you moved this thread to general aviation is beyond me. It directly references a PART 121 carrier and concerns airline operations.
