Here's a question for you mechanic guys:

What does the 540 in IO-540 mean? (Or whatever number may be there) Is it the displacement?

For the most part, Clutch_Cargo is correct, but this is not always the case as with the TIGO-541. It is also 540 ci.
 
Do you know what the deal is with the 541? The number is supposed to be the displacement rounded to the nearest 5 ci.
 
541 means integral accessory drive.
 
Any particular reason they had to break the whole system instead of just designating it with a suffix?
 
Just in case you want to know:

TIO-540-J2BD and the LTIO-540-J2BD have a displacement of 541.5 cubic inches with a bore of 5.125 and a stroke of 4.375 with a compression ratio of 7.3:1.
