These two questions really stumped me. Any idea what the interviewer was looking for?

What would you
do if you saw you captains seat belt unbuckled and
there was a 727 on 3/4 mile final, and you were just
cleared for immediate takeoff? What would you do if
you were cleared for takeoff with a 727 on 3/4 mile
final and you just barely started rolling?

I have no idea, but I'll say that the interviewer isn't asking a very well constructed question.

A 727 on a three quarter mile final will be over the numbers in about twenty seconds. If you were in position and hold, the 727 crew would have already call their go-around. If you were holding short, then this is an easy question, you tell the Captain that his seat belt is not fastened. He would have already declined the immediate take off and you all would have just been holding short anyway. You might as well tell him so that he can fasten it before the next clearance. You might want to suggest that you re-run the checklist that included "seat belts" because if you missed the seat belt part, you might have missed something else.

In this question, you must have been in position to have been able to roll after clearance and again I'll say that the 72 crew would have already begun their go around.

On second thought, I might have an answer to your first question. The interviewer is probably looking to see if you are positionally aware enough to realize the time it would take for a 727, arriving at two and a half miles a minute, to cover three quarters of a mile.

Those are really stupid questions. I had a similar experience with ASAabout 20 years ago. They asked....."What would you do if the Captainwas going to fly you and the passengers into a level 5 thunderstorm?"Then they asked "What would you do if the Captain continued belowminimums on an ILS?"

In the first instance I said I would take the airplane if he refused todeviate. In the second I said I would do the same if he didn't goaround when being told he was below minimums. I guess they were thewrong answers because I didn't get hired. :)

Answer: "Were still waiting on our numbers".

Answer: "Ahh, were gonna have to stop here, somebody just stood up in back".

You don't have to lie, just refuse the clearance. The controller isn'tflying the airplane. Just say "We will wait on the 727." I would havelost this interview because I probably wouldn't have been able to lookat the guy like he wasn't an absolute moron after he asked thequestion. If you didn't get hired consider yourself lucky. Who wouldwant to work for a place where the folks who are responsible for hiringare that stupid?
