Doing some interview prep and wondering what a good answer would be for:

"Tell me about a time you bent the rules to meet an objective"

Seems like a trick question to me, admitting to bending rules for no good reason i.e. emergency, doesn't seem to be a good idea. Similar question, tell me how you broke a rule to help the company?

Any ideas how best to handle these?

Thanks

APu policy on a hot muggy day? Make pax comfortable costs a couple bucks but folks are happy? Something that doesn't involve actual regs might be a good place to start.

You don't bend the rules to make an objective.

Easy answer.

Tell them about a time when you were checking out at Walmart in the line that limits you to 20 items. You had 23 items but you wanted to meet the cashier...

It's a trick question. Tell them you don't break the rules although one time you went max speed to get to your medical appointment on time.
