I was reading this on Willflyforfood.com

I arrived at 8:05 for the 8:30 interview and was one of the last to show. Most were there 30-60 minutes early. Christine (Chris) was there to welcome you and collect your required documents and fee (cash or money order). She was warm and professional.

Whats the fee for?

Fee at the door, did u get solicited and obtain prostitutes? What a WTF! Come on how lame. This industry is run by a bunch of greedy dirt bags. Maybe the CEO of MESA had his Porsche car insurance jacked up so this is his way of covering the cost. DON'T SUPPORT MESA THEY TREAT YOU LIKE ASS.

I interviewed with them a few years back, one of the many times I thought CommutAir was going out of business. I conveniently "forgot" the $50 fee. They offered me the job anyway.

They are testing you, they want to be sure that you can swing the 50 dollar fee, because that is what it is going to cost you every day for your hotel that they dont pay for.

We are very pleased that you have expressed an interest in a pilot position with FedEx Express.

This profile form will be your initial step in the process of being considered for a pilot position. You must complete this form in its entirety. We will then evaluate your profile, and, if you are selected as a candidate for interview, more information will be sent to you, including an application for your signature.

An initial $50.00 fee will be required to process this profile. You will be prompted to submit this payment via credit card (American Express, MasterCard, Visa) after entering data in the profile.

So let's start complaining about Fedex, too.

Its their first test to see if you are actually dumb enough to work there. If you are willing to pay the fee then you are the perfect candidate.

Let's see...$50 to interview at Mesa...or $50 to interview at Fedex. Yeah, you're right -- they're the same thing.

$50 dollars is still $50 dollars, regardless of whether Mesa or Fedex cashes in your check/credit card.

At the end of the day, your bank account will read -$50 from whatever balance you had before.

With that kinda attitude, if Fedex management could have it their way, they would make all the new hires pay for their training. So each applicant would have to fish out $15k or so for training. And you know what? The number of resumes of people willing to work at Fedex would still be in the thousands.

what about the $7000 fee for southwest???? I remember everyone calling them PTF a few years back.

Big difference between $50 and $15K, at least when I took math.

Look, all I'm saying is an application/interview fee is tacky, cheap, and outrageous.

I can kind of understand why Fedex does (not excusing it): otherwise, they'd have every CFI in the country applying, just on the hope that maybe once in a while Fedex takes a special 400 hour guy.

But Mesa will take just about anyone, so their interview fee is just a bitch-slap. Conducting interviews is a cost of doing business. Charging for it is an unethical way of conducting business, especially for an entry-level, low-pay job.

I agree it sucks. I don't know why in the hell someone would want to pay for the "privledge" of just having an interview with Mesa. I completely fault the fools who glady pony up that fee and would probably pay even more. The costs of interviewing pilots should be absorbed by the company, that is the cost of doing buisness. If people would be patient enough and not submit applications for a couple weeks then presto I guarantee you they would drop that fee in a hurry. Same with the training contract if enough people didn't sign they would probably have to drop that too. Unfortunately they have their little MAPD farm to scout from. They have no problem paying $50 cause they already just blew over 50 grand to have the "privledge" of working at Mesa. We truly are our own enemies.

Unfortunately we have pricks like JO who are ready to exploit every little thing like that. Then when people are desperate to get out if it;'s under a year they have to pony up just to leave or suffer for a year. Hey look on the bright side I guess at least it takes over 2 months to get your IOE done. Maybe from the start of training to the finish of training you will have already burned 4 months off the contract. What a great place to work!!! Sign me up NOT!!! I sure hope those guys get paid during training.
