Where do you all find the info for internships? Where these offered through a local college?

When would you recommend starting/doing internships? Im only a Freshmen in college and pursuing a Pilot degree. I love aviation but I am really worried about finding jobs in the future. I still have probably 3-4 more years left, atleast and things can change a lot, and I hope they do, but Im still worried about it.

So, can you please explain what all an internship is about, and how do you go about finding a place doing them, and when is the right time to do them?

Thanks

Some companies have specific programs set up with certain schools and will only accept interns from these schools. (ASA, expressjet) Others will open them up to the general population. (Southwest comes to mind off the top of my head.) If you are enrolled at an aviation college ask around for where to look.

If no one can point you in the right direction, look on the website or call the company you want to intern with directly. Call their employment number and someone ought to tell you who you need to talk with.

As for when to do it, many companies are going to require you be a junior or senior. But specifically when is up to you to work out.

i was just reading the thread about "HandiCAPT" and i know exactly how everyone feels about that so i'm not gonna continue the discussion. However, what is the general idea shared by you folks currently in the industry about doing an internship? i know that there are several benefits, ie. lower mins, networking, ground school (depending on the airline), ect...but what are some of the cons (and anymore pros you guys can think of) associated with these things? the only reason i'm asking is because i'll be eligable to do this in the coming summer or next fall, simply depending on when i choose to pursue this. and if i do decide to do this i'm going to have to take out a loan to live on...so i'm wondering if it's worth the extra cash to undertake something like this...

thanks

Somehow I missed this from last month. Do an internship punk! ;)

The internship can be beneficial to you especially since you are in the KSU program that is tied into EJ. It would be a no-brainer if it were I, take the internship and you could always go elsewhere should you not take advantage of taking the interview at reduced minimums. Back when I was offered a 1900 ground instructor position at COEX I would say the majority of applicants that did the internship were also offered the position and it seemed to help those out over the people interviewing off the streets who had no ties with em.

so i'm wondering if it's worth the extra cash to undertake something like this...
They charging for this now?. I would highly doubt this-

good luck and I can not think of any cons other than you having to take the "time" to do this. You will have very few options at the 91/135 level upon graduation due to your low total times, take the internship.

Internships

It's as the Mastercard commercial says, "The internship that led to your dream job: Priceless." If, during your internship, you meet a contact who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who can put your resume in front of the person who hires, the time spent alone will have been worth it. And, you might even learn something.

I would do as many internships as you can. Good luck.
