Just a REALLY stupid question for those operating in Mexico on a somewhat frequent basis. I usually stick with bottled water for drinking down there, but usually will take ice in my beverages.

Is this a dangerous proposition???

Some of our guys don't trust the ice either, some (myself included) do. Just wandering if thats generally advisable or if I've just been really lucky. Thanks a million!

no way dont trust the ice

I only got sick once in South America, and I drank soda with ice - on accident....stick with bottled water (with gas so you can see it was not opened) and bottled beer!

another big plus....have Cipro onbaord in your med kits.

ice?

i go down to mexico some with coex. i have talked to some of my pax that go there frequently. they say that water in most of the cities is purified(?) and is okmto drink. ice is made from the same water. i have had cokes w/ ice down there multiple times w/ no problems.

We go in to Toluca and San Louis Potosi for the most part and so far I haven't had any bad experiences with the ice being in my Cokes. I guess it would probably be wise to do without it just in case...

Ice ?

Only takes once ! You can roll the dice many times if you are the gambling type.

Don't do it.

ONLY IF AM DRUNK
No I don't drink or eat the tap water in Meechiiico intentionally, not even ice.
Must admit that I have been seen slurping frozen rum drinks in good hotel bars.

No problem........however?

I've been flying into Mexico for along time. Most of the major hotels all purify the water, and I have never been sick in that regards. Most of the handlers we use have ice that is purified, always ask if your wondering.

HOWEVER,

I have gotten mountizumas revenge from some food that I thought was safe, if your not sure dont eat or drink it.......

Good Luck........

I haven't had a problem with the water in Mexico. But I have developed a few simple rules over the years. If I can not recognize it, it smells funny, is not hot, or cold as appropriate, looks funny, and so on, I don't touch it.

Most of the tourist areas in Mexico are very careful of the water they serve. If you only see locals in a bar or diner, I personally wouldn't eat there. But if you see tourists types, you should be alright. Since tourism as just about the major industry in Mexico, the Tourist Boards are fanatical about the water quality.
