DALLAS - A Southwest Airlines flight from Orlando, Fla., to Austin made an emergency landing at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Fla., as a precaution after a sensor detected an apparent problem in the cargo hold.

Airline spokeswoman Olga Romero said the pilot elected to make the emergency landing Sunday. She said there was no fire.

The 104 passengers on the plane were taken to the Officer's Club at the base for Easter lunch and continued on their flight after another Southwest plane was brought to the base from Dallas.

What about the muslim pax?

That's probably the most people seen in an AF O-Club this decade within the States. At least they got to see a nice one. Did they play crud?:D

Used to fly through that area a lot and we always had strange cargo door/smoke detector issues.

I think there's some different radio waves passing through the air in that area.

Before partaking in an Easter meal at the O'Club - all passengers were told that they either had to sign up for club membership or they would only receive box nasty's by the flightline kitchen. The flip side is though that a visa card comes with the club membership.

As a lifelong O-Club member, I hope some of them took advantage of the great meal and will join and support their local Officer's Club.

Yes, it could have been an evil plot by the terrorists, to cause the false alarm, knowing that the plane would divert to that base, where previously they arranged the "impromptu" Easter dinner at the O club. Then, they were to smuggle an illegal metal fork on to the rescheduled flight on do evil things. But the extra screening at the Air Force base stopped the plot. Thank goodness for the extra screening.

Doesn't Panama City have a commercial airport? Sounds like somebody living in the past. Prolly asked for a flyby too.
