The only shortage coming is the shortage of truthful information coming out of the flight schools, general aviation magazines, job fairs, etc. As long as there are people to benefit from those that are thinking of becoming pilots there will always be a "pilot shortage".

When a newly minted ATP has multiple job offers from multiple majors with signing bonuses dangled in front of his face to chose a carrier to work for then you have a pilot shortage.

The question for future pilots is not whether there will be jobs but would they want to fly them? As of right now, becoming a pilot is no different than being a bus driver. Yea it's cool and all up in the sky but that's where it ends. That's why there will be a severe shortage the next decades, it's not a very hard job but it's hard on the person. Back in the day it was good because you got paid 500,000 to work 10 days per bid. But now they've even taken that way.

Don't forget the stress on family and relationships.

Failed airlines, furloughs and starting over numerous times.

Pilot pushing managers.

Bad weather.

Terrible hotels.

Unappreciative passengers.

Commuting from a livable city on extremely full flights.

Labor unrest, whipsawing, and the continued "race to bottom" wages.

Lack of real rest rules that provide you with a decent night sleep.

Pissed off Flight attendants who hate pilots.

For me........Too old to start over, too young to walk away. If I were a young college-aged student I'd be saying, " Yeah, sign me up for this sack of crap".

And P.S. I've never driven a bus, but comparing the two careers is like Apples and Chainsaws. BS it's easy! Pilots who say this need a hard kick in their happy spot! 25 years, none of it's been easy. Most of us are very good at what we do, we just make it look easy.

Management loves to dumb down this career, it makes it easier for them to justify not paying us what the career and responsibility demand. Stop selling yourselves short!

Guilty as charged. I try to let loose right before a bathroom break. The other guy is supposed to put his mask on, and the flight attendant thinks it was him! That's what you call 2 birds with one stone.
