Where have you been for the last 5 years??? Do you remember the spring and summer of 2002? There was almost a passenger revolt against TSA during that summer.

I do remember. You guys need to remember that prior to 9-11, going thru security was a joke. Now after 9-11 it is a pain in the ars. These TSA people dont like to harass anyone. They are there to do a job and get that paycheck. Remember, they are doing a job. They are trying to protect all of us employees and the traveling public. Do I like getting stripped searched???? NO. Do I talk back at them???? NO. Do I like being treated like a terrorist???? NO. Do I like being treated like a human?? YES. Do you think they like to be treated nicely as well??? bet they do.

We are all doing our jobs, lets just make it easier for everyone.

Yeah, well I DO like reading in the paper about TSA agents being caught sending THEMSELVES through the baggage screening machines, and being fired for stealing items out of peoples luggage. It helps reinforce my theory that they are idiots.

Next time have the gate agents call the airport police and watch a turf war break out.

That would be hillarious! ...like a page straight out of Reno 911.

"um... we're gonna need you guys to go ahead and "secure the perimeter"".

I thought the DOT's (or was it DHS's?) own Inspector General has shown that TSA screeners are no more effective at detecting contraband than the private contractors employed prior to 9/11?

They could give a ******************** about what they do, thats why if you notice when you go through security how lazy they are. The name "thousands standing around" comes from somewhere.

All they want to do is go on their power trip before retreating back to their trailers or ghettos.

Think about it, half those TSA d!pshts wouldn't know a security problem if it ran them over. They are just a bunch of losers that are too lazy and stupid to work at Wendy's. I had the same thing happen, two TSA dorks wanted on board to do an "inspection". I told them there is nothing I know of in our manuals and that I would check on it and let them know, after 25 minutes of waiting at the bottom of the stairs they gave up and left.

You may have your disagreement with the way TSA has made life a bit difficult, but please don't put down those who work. I can give you example of many thousands of people who 'refuse' to work and are living on your tax dollars.

The whole TSA thing after 9/11 is a joke; politician and their off-shore companies have made millions from handing out contracts (look up who go the contact to make TSA uniforms). I don't like to take my shoes off when boarding a plane in the US...the whole procedures is there to make us feel we're not secure, hence, our support for 'the so-called fight againt terrorism'.

However, I have been the victim of 'highly trained' TSA agents more than once and hope there's a better training system in place for TSA security procedures.

I have never been "a victim" of these TSA people. Maybe because I treat them with respect. They treat me with respect back.

I guess when you are 24 years old, with 600 hours and a brand new Commercial Pilots License, that makes you better than everyone else and therefore you get to treat TSA people like dirt......and they will make your day a bittcchh.

It's not "Thousands Standing Around" anymore. It's now "Taking Shampoo Away". Making the nation safer one shampoo bottle at a time.

Had a similar experience. Early one morning before dawn I was taxiing an aircraft to the terminal after coming out of maint. and as I was pulling in there were these two guys sort of lurking around in the dark by the fence. It was really early, well before crew show and the station personnel were just arriving to work. After shutdown the guys are walking all around the jet looking around so I questioned them and asked for ID. One was TSA and the other FAA. The TSA guy did want to look around in the cabin and since he was escorted by the FAA I fugured why not. Don't know exactly what he wanted to see but he was satisfied. Then the Crew showed up and got ramped by the Fed.

I don't question their motives, I just question their methods. As should any clear thinking human being. If someone could clearly explain to me how patting down my infant son while at least 3 young, Middle Eastern men stroll through the lane next to us without even having to remove their shoes makes the flight safer then I'll be all ears.

And the single biggest complaint I had prior to 9/11 was the overall professionalism of security personel, not much has changed there either. Seems to be the same great minds at work, just some have moved up to supervisory positions 5 yrs. later...

So is this new "trusted flyer" card they are working on for frequent flyers gonna be for pilots also? The daily screening "dog and pony show" for the pilots is a hassle we could all do without...are we gonna get a card too?

On a USAir flight from PHX-LAS, I saw a Dh'ing captain get "ramdomly" selected for search.
Our flight was later delayed due to a suspicious package a TSA agent watched a passenger board with. 10 minutes after the pax had been on board, the TSA agent called the crew to notify them of this. It was a pastic bag with a shot glass in it.

The question is, Is your company going to fork over the bucks for the card?, or are you? The card is going to run a couple of hundred bucks, and will only be valid at selected airports.

ILM has one TSA inspector who's quite an ass. I've seen him every morning so far this month. He made our flight 30 minutes late because he had an issue with the security check, then realized he was talking about another flight and not ours.

I don't care what anyone says, the TSA are idiots and I'm sick of them. If we honestly think we are one shred safer than prior to 9/11 we are kidding ourselves. All we can hope is that the real authorities (FBI / CIA / Police) are doing their jobs. The TSA is just a dog and pony show and we need to figure out a way to keep them from running our lives.

So many of these TSA kids think that they are king $hit on tird island, thus the power trip. The TSA pulls over 3 year old children and 85 year old women in an effort to create a perception that they are taking security to heights which have never been reached. I think the pen marks we get before entering security from the Huntleigh chick or Indian dude in EWR are extremely important and so official looking.....but we all know it's worthless. Just like the TSA folks who sign their initials on your boarding pass as you go through security. Oh yes, part of that PROCESS which makes it all just so official looking.

It's so funny that we are being punished for the actions of a few people in the world. One idiot does the shoe thing, and the rest of the world has to take their shoes off. Same with shampoo and banana boat SPF 30. Why has the TSA decided that we must inconvenience all of us for their actions? When was the last time one of US decided to hijack an airplane? DB Cooper? The PSA flight as in 30 years ago? When was the last time a Middle Eastern kid either tried it or planned it? Historically speaking for the last many many years....and as early as several weeks ago....as far as we know.

It is funny to watch the screen readers as they squint their eyes, move their noses just so as your bag goes across their screen as they interpret whats in your bag. Wow, it all just looks so painful and I'm worn out after watching that entire process. I always enjoy how the TSA kids take out all my clothes (dirty underwear and socks) and pile them up on a table so everyone else can have a look see what yah got. And if that isnt enough, we are constantly reminded that the current threat level is code orange. It's so nice to be reminded of that all the time. And just when you think your getting on the plane, there are the friendly TSA folks to pull you over at the gate, again for yet one more check of all your goods which they have been through at least once before.

I always smell for alcohol on em. One of these days, some one of us will get even.

I've heard of a couple cases of our f/a's finding knives on board our a/c and TSA's response was "it's on the plane and therefor not our responsibility! So if one of these tools comes on my a/c I will call the police since this is not their responsibility or jurisdiction!

I recently did roll through security with an expendable bottle of shampoo. They didnt catch it much as I wouldnt have thought that they would.

I know someone who accidently had two pocket knives in a purse and went thru 3 different TSA checkpoints. They did not realize they had the knives until MEXICAN airport security in CUN "caught" them.

Ooooh...there's that warm fuzzy feeling again.

Don't blame the TSA if you've never heard of them. Blame your airlines' security coordinator. They've been around since 2003. Before that they were FAA Special Agents (merged into TSA in 2003 except the hazmat inspectors which remained with the FAA). TSA has two divisions; screening (45-50k persons) and regulatory (maybe 1500 people). The regulatory division employs the ASI's (Aviation Security Inspectors), they are charged with ensuring that airports and air carriers comply with the regulations found in 49 CFR 1542, 1544, 1546, and 1548. They can fine you and your air carrier. If you fail to prevent access through a door they can fine you (usually you will get a warning notice). The airport cops are aware of them because they can fine the airport too. You heard about the parking restrictions near the airports after 9/11? Who verifys compliance with these rules? The TSA inspectors. The airport must have a security plan in place. Who verifys compliance? The TSA inspectors. The airport must provide this security for you so you are safe. The TSA is there to make sure it is done. So you are safe.
If you leave your door open and your aircraft unattended the TSA inspectors may find it and give your carrier a fine. This is to keep you safe and ensure the aircraft are secured when on the ramp or attended while exposed. There are several security directives (SD's ) out post 9/11, including first flight of the day searches and return from mx searches and certain things that must be done to accessible panels on your aircraft (I won't spell them out on this board but you should be aware of these).
The TSA on occasion will inspect your aircraft to make sure this is being done. Is this a problem for you? Why? Why is this inspector suddenly a TSA puke? You should sign a form for these checks before every flight. This is to ensure your safety and to try and prevent things from damaging your aircraft. Wake up and quit having a fit about it.
Do you cry when the FAA wants to verify you are a pilot or do a line check? Sure it sucks but is it really that big of a deal? The TSA Inspector is just doing his job, a large part of which is ensure that there is another level of protection for you.
Sure the TSA has problems and it sucks to go through screening. Take your metal off, suck it up, and go through. If you don't ring you're free to go. Big deal.
Educate yourselves before bitching about something, if you haven't heard about TSA security procedures you need to address this with your carriers security coordinator, not on a webboard.

But really, do you think taking tweezers, cuticle cutters, shampoo and sun tan lotion is really going to make us all that much safer? Isnt the TSA just over reacting here a bit? Or additional screening for young kids or the elderly is just over kill......

I understand your point when it comes to physically leaving your car infront of the terminal and going inside for some coffee......but, as for the other stuff, it's all a joke and ridiculous. For serious security screening, refer to the Tel Aviv airport. Those folks probably think that the TSA is the biggest joke running.

My biggest problem with the TSA is the fact that they get paid. Each dollar they receive brings the value of each dollar I earn down. This happens anytime we pay for things that are worthless.

Well it's pretty obvious who you work for or the job your'e going after since you can't cut it in the cockpit. TSA is simply a show, nothing more. I have to take off my shoes and get fingered, then I get in the cockpit with a large crash axe and a 12 gauge flare gun, not to mention I'm now the guidance system for what has been used as a missle. Yesterday I watched luggage screener read thru someones journal or diary for over 5 minutes and laughing and smiling as he does. Then the next bag he pilfers thru he lets his buddy in on some nice looking panties. All that has been accomplished by the TSA is over compensating a large group of people that are too stupid to work at Wendies and too lazy to be a greeter at WalMart.

Becuase when you think about it all they do is react to the latest situation, nothing is proactive, too stupid to think ahead. No liquids thru security, but you can buy them on the other side but you can't take it on the plane, give me a break. What's gonna happen when Al Quieda starts rolling up turd shaped plastique suppositories and drops that in the lav and saws the plane in half at FL410? I suppose the brilliant TSA will run out and spend billions on exam tables with stirrups so we can all have fun with the jelly finger!

Strict border control and profiling would be a step in the right direction but that is too un popular. When all the 9-11 hijacker/murderers were from the middle east and all middle aged muslim males, that's not profiling, it's a casual observation. I would support a nation wide walkout by Flight Crewmembers to bring some reality to the TSA.

All we have really with the TSA is a clown show, they couldn't find their ass with both hands and a compass.

In all seriousness, I know you and I have had our disagreements on lots of stuff, but I find your post to be DEAD ON! I agree with you 100%! The TSA is nothing more than a JOKE! Go overseas to see how security is done! Our country is always one step behind. If you want to see the way it should be done, go and fly out of Isreal!

Does anyone remember in class about the Captain being the "Ground Security Coordinator?" We all fell asleep during that hour, but I'd bet there's something in that subject that allows us to challenge them.

I don't know that TSA has the right to board the airplane. Somebody give me some law on that point. They probably have the right to inspect under certain circumstances, but there's nothing in my company's manual about it either.
