I was called for an interview with Eagle recently, but about that same time, my wife and I just found out she's pregnant. I ended up not going to the interview because of the low pay issue and the possibility of having no insurance coverage for her. I'm in a non aviation related field right now, and am wanting to get back into flying. I have excellent insurance coverage at my current job. Will Eagle or ASA (where I really want to be) cover my wife if I get hired AFTER she's already pregnant? I've been told that's considered a preexisting condition and they won't pay for the birth. Also, how soon does insurance kick in over at Eagle and ASA?
I'd sure appreciate any good advice!!!!!! Thanx

I don't want to hi-jack the thread, BUT

speaking of insurance, does anyone have individual coverage through Unicare? If so, what are your costs, is Unicare good to deal with? Are they responsive?

The group coverage at our company with Humana went up 25% this year and they are shopping Blue Cross... it is still quite expensive.

Thanks...

I would try and contact "Swass" on this board. He was very helpful with me in a similar situation/question. I don't believe that pregnancy can be a "preexisting" condition. Good luck.

When I went through ASA training (about 5 years ago) a big deal was made that the insurance DIDN'T consider pregnancy to be a pre-existing condition......Maybe someone still at ASA would be kind enough to make a phone call for you and see if that's still the case.

Congrats on your wife's pregnancy! :D

Straight from my eagle buddy today -

Your wife will be covered. His ex-wife was pregnant when he started at Eagle, so he was in your exact position. Insurance begins the first day of the month following your date of hire. So, if you were hired Jan. 15, your insurance starts Feb 1.

Your biggest problem is that you turned the interview down.

thanks English. Can you ask your eagle friend the basics of the insurance ie, can you choose between PPO or EPO, how much are copays, how much is deducted out of your check for a family of 4...

thanks again!

Can't answer your question, but I can tell you that after the baby comes, ASA's insurance won't cover birth control at all. However, they will cover an abortion.

They'll also cover Viagra and other "helpful" items.

LTG:eek:

thanks again!

The ppo copay plan for a family of 4 is $210.30 per month. The ppo deductible plan is $189.53. The minimum coverage plan is $67.39. Those are the three options. There used to be an HMO, maybe that's the minimum coverage plan now.

Under the ppo plan, 80% is normally covered if you pick an in-network doctor. An out-of-network doctor will only be covered 50%.
