Hub and spoke, in which the AI is the "spoke" and the other six-pack instruments are the "spokes." That's how Alitalia Airlines told us FlightSafety instructors to train its students. The philosophy was that when flying big jets you set up attitude and power, and evaluate performance with the rest of the instruments. The FAA has placed less emphasis on the attitude indicator because it feels a vacuum instrument is likely to fail in small airplanes. However, in turbine equipment redundant systems and an independently-powered attitude gyro make it unlikely you will lose attitude information.
What is amazing about it all is if you fly the attitude indicator almost to the exclusion of the other instruments, trim well and fly it well that you can still hold desired parameters within a few knots, a few feet per minute and within a few feet of desired altitude.
What is a "music scan"?
