Instrument Competency Check

I've been out of aviation for a while. I was wondering if you can do all 6 approaches for an instrument competency check in an FTD or sim or do some approaches still need to be accomplished in an airplane?

You need an IPC - Instrument Proficiency Check.

The requirements are contained in the PTS here. See page 31 for a breakdown of the sections required.

Not sure on the FTD thing, do some reading in the PTS and some googling.
