I'm sorry, maybe I lead a shelterd life, but I just don't see it happening. If it did, I wouldn't think there would be anything wrong with it. It's kind of like asking if you ever dated a college prof. So you get better grades on the pop quizes, you still have to pass the final exam.
I know of many people who fly with their life partners (I guess that's politically correct) and no one questions that, do they. So you meet someone you like, and it happens to be a student, so what??
I know of guys that married their flight instructors and gals that married their flight instructors. Most of those relationships have remained beyond the training time and through many furloughs and moves.
I guess it depends on the Hotness factor!! 1 to 5 ....no way 6 to 7 , well maybe after a coupla cold ones, 8 to 10 !!!! go for it, find another instructor to finish her or his training up and go live happily ever after..........or for a month or two.....or a couple of days....whatever the case may be!!
On a serious note I do know a couple that met that way, they have been married 8 years and have a great kid. Just be prepared for potential fallout if the relationship goes bad while you are still employed at your company.
Don't dip where you eat is a good motto for most any job.
By the way I've been married 8 years and have a great kid!!!
Good luck.
If it works out, I see no problem. If it doesn't, will she still want you as her flight instructor? Probably not.
I guess it could be very good...mile high booty calls, or very bad, "you took the controls from me because all you ever tried to do was control me" etc.
How well can the two principals differentiate between the romantic relationship outside of flying and the ethically necessary professional relationship between the instructor and student?
Should the romantic side go sour the professional side will follow quickly. The instructor's responsibility is to the student exclusively and all personal concerns secondary.
I'm still on friendly terms with most of my students. I don't speak to all of them these days, but the ones who cross my path are still friends. I don't think I'd have a "romantic" relationship with any student though. I am friends, that's all, with one female student to this day. That's where it ends, though.
c'mon....many chiks (including married ones) take flight lessons strictly beacuse they get some young guys attention and maybe also to get some action...half the guys I worked with were banging students!
but then again, dont break those FOI rules regarding professionalism now....
puulease!
you aren't making any money, might as well get some tail!!!!
From personal experience, let me tell you it can work (for a little while at least). But I would wait until you are no longer actually student/instructor. Once the authority is removed, if you are still interested, give it a shot. Sometimes the idea of student and teacher hook-up is the exciting part, not the actual person.
Have fun. Remember: Don't be a fool, wrap your tool.
I really doubt any girl would pay $3000-$5000 in flight lessons to scam a date, although maybe a discovery flight or two. If so, there's no risk to losing any future business.
If she's gonna use you as her flight instructor to get her certification, she's there for the training, then why not wait.
KingAir, is this a casual attraction, or do you really like her and think a relationship is going to develope?
Just remember...no means "standby, expect further in five minutes."
You do require a clearance. Only private pilots and above allowed to enter; you're safe there. No touch and go. Always read back clearances ("right here, honey?"), and never question weight or balance. Be sure to brief thoroughly, and don't forget, the debriefs are just as important. Good luck!
Ive also known some instructors that did get involved with their students...with good and bad results.
Not for me personally...Id rather not mix business and pleasure. Things are simpler that way, and I sure don't need any more drama in my life.
