I used to have the wire dream all the time but not in a few years... My favorite was when I got the phone call to go to an Aloha ground school... That night I dreamt of taking off of 4R in HNL and instead of the standard jet departure --- right turn over the water we did a VFR GA "Red Hill" departure.... left turn over the freeway and over Aiea and buzzed my old neighborhood in the 737-200. Then we headed over Millilani and out to the North Shore. (You cant do that in a jet, legally)

i have this recurring dream (well, i've had it twice) where i'm holding something in my hand

i have those all the time, more than twice though

My most vivid airplane dream:

I just went to bed after having too many beers. I was flying a Cessna 172 IFR in IMC in normal cruise and had vertigo. I lost control of the aircraft and entered a steep spiral. I could not recover and could feel the intense g-forces. All I could think about was that I'm going down for the last time... I woke up before impact.

Of course after I woke up, I had the real life bed spins... Not fun...

Another of my favorites is being able to fly by flapping arms. Its hard and I can only get up about 10 feet but it is fun.

Hey, someone else has that dream. It is really, really hard work.

I've talked to other pilots who had the "Wire Dream" or the "tree dream".

I haven't been able to fly outside of an airplane in dreams, tho.

This is really a weird thread. I also have had the "Wire Dream" many, many times. In each dream I'm in my old Pitts and am flying down city streets under the wires, looking for an opening so that I can climb. My best friend is a shrink, maybe I should ask him about this. Come to think of it maybe he has had the dream as he is a pilot. Weird.

I had one

The scariest dream I have had... I was a scenic tour pilot and had a child sitting next to me and 2 parents in the back. We were flying over a small island looking down at a lighthouse, when the engine quits. I knew we would never make it to the mainland and had to ditch in the water just off the side of the island. I remember very vividly seeing the terrified look on my passengers faces and the feeling impending doom. Luckily, I woke up after we hit.
Unfortunatley I had to fly scenics that day and felt like it was going to happen all day long.

Nothing ever happened but on every flight for the rest of the scenic season, it was on my mind.

I have had the floating around my house dream.

That is really wierd.... I'd like to know why we all have had the same dream. I never knew anybody else had the same dream until reading about it in this thread.

The sad part is you probably won't have the dream again for a long time now. This seems to happen after talking about the dream with others. That is even more weird.

I had the wire dream frequently while I was getting my private. I probably have it 2 or 3 times a year now. I wonder if is has to do with the fact that whenever I'm driving (on a semi-open road) I'm looking around thinking "I could land on this road". Probably just a way for me to remind myself not to try it.

I also used to have dreams that I could fly, but instead of flapping my arms, I jump straight up in the air and start kicking my feet (like when you swim). I get around pretty good that way.

Another one not mentioned yet that I have sometimes is I'll fly into a controlled airport, without getting a clearance or talking to anyone. I start to panic when I see the runway and realize I don't have one. I'll then turn around and fly away hoping nobody sees me.

I talked with another guy in the past about the wires dream. As weird and spooky as the dream itself is, it's even more so that many more have the exact same one.

Dude, where does the wire dream come from?

I don't mean to belittle the risk, but wires are on poles or towers...you should be training your eye to see these things when you are looking out the window.

If you are buzzing a river and you see two towers on either side of the banks...you have to be able to use your minds eye to envision that in-between them is WIRES!

I'd be more worried about blades of an electric windmill in a windmill farm nailing you...those things are going up everywhere!

that's the dream i have!! and i think i figured out what i hold onto when i'm flying. it's my small R/C airplane, except it get's a bit bigger. i hold onto the leading edge of the wings and it just goes. such an incredible dream and feeling.

Wow! Never figured the wire dream was so popular. Mine is usually mixed with tree branches also. After I am sucessfully able to dodge the wires and start a climb, the darn tree branches get in the way. And then I wake up.
