Has anyone had any experience with an inner ear viral infection or know someone who has? I just got diagnosed with one and was told it could take a few months to clear up. I've got ringing in the ears, a little trouble focusing, and some slight nausea. NO vertigo or vomiting...

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Recovery is a little rough. Antibiotics with steroid compliment will clear it up. You'll be bed ridden for a few days while it clears up.

Yes, we do have Virtual Flight Surgeons contracted. They do a decent job, although it would be nice to have ALPA Aeromedical. Give VFS a call at: (866) AEROMED

I already talked to AeroMed and they suggested that I get a second opinion to rule out other possibilities. I did and the the specialist also said that I had an inner ear viral infection. It's been going on 5 weeks now and I understand it can take several months to clear up. I can't say that i'm enjoying the time off....

Hey, i just replied on your other post. There really is no treatment for a viral inner ear infection. You have to let it run its course. I've had symptoms since Thanksgiving time so it's been almost 2 months. I went to see a neurotologist (inner ear disorder specialist) and he put me on a 3 week taper of prednisone. I just got finished with it and I do feel a little better, but i'm not 100% yet. I called Aeromed about it and it is not something you can fly with.
