As you know, we have offered recall to all but 92 of our furloughed pilots at this point, and based on our needs for February and March, I believe we will exhaust our furloughed pilot list in the next few weeks. As I mentioned in a previous code-a-phone, we anticipated this possibility early this fall and began planning for the hiring process at that time. Retired Captain Jon Swift was tapped to take over the program last month, and we are ready to move forward with the application process beginning later today. Our first interviews should occur near the end of January, and depending on the response we get from our remaining furloughed pilots, our first new-hire pilot may be in class as early as February or March.

Our pilot applications will be managed using the Airlineapps.com tool, but the rest of the process will be very similar to what we used during the 1996-2001 timeframe. Later today, you will be able to see the pilot hiring info on Delta.com – click on “about Delta” at the bottom and follow the “careers” link to see where we are headed.

Probably 50-75%.

I am not sure that it's a bad gig per se. But, for someone that has been out on furlough for 4 years and has another gig going (in or out of aviation) it probably behooves them to wait out the USAirways and BK storm for another 3-6 months before making a decision.

A bunch have gone to SWA, FDX or UPS and will probably never come back; other may be in the left seat somewhere else (B6) and may keep deferring (up to 10 years) and have the option available in the future.

I am sure that if we emerge from BK as a stand alone carrier and the recovery plans continue to work, some of the people who bypassed may start coming back if offered.

As for advancement; who knows? But to be an MD-88 or 737-800 F/O at Delta by the Spring of 2007 MAY be better than where one might be now.

If this helps:

First year pay (all):$48.88

2nd year: MD-88 $67.78
737-800 $74.81
757/767 $77.32

Third: MD-88 $81.45
737-800 $89.66
757/767 $90.48

More than 10 767ER INTL FO slots went unfilled in JFK on the last bid too.

Nice pay rates, way better than what I get. How many hours per month can one anticipate?

So does anyone know what the hiring process will be like? Will people have a chance based on qualifications or is it strictly who you know like CAL? Living in central Jersey I'd love JFK 767 Int'l but unfortunately I don't know anyone at DAL. Any ideas from those with a lot more knowledge than myself?

I can imagine what the interview room will look like...A bunch of 22-24 yr olds with their backpacks, ipods and wearing doc martins. They will be bragging to each other about the time they flew a 172RG with there buddies to spring break and how they were pissed because they were still 4 months from upgrading to an RJ captain.

jk.

good luck to all that apply.

Minimum of 70 per month, but some months are better than others. We always seem short on crews during the Summer and months with holidays. (like everyone else I am sure) Most lineholders get lines with 75-82 hours. And, most categories (NYC MD88 for example) have between 8-20 reserve lines, with larger categories having more.

Delta Accepting Pilot Applications
Wednesday December 20, 12:00 pm ET
ATLANTA, Dec. 20, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines today will officially begin accepting applications for new-hire pilots in anticipation of exhausting its pilot furlough list in 2007. Interviews for new Delta first officer positions are scheduled to begin in January.

Starting the hiring process again is a significant milestone for our pilot group,'' said Steve Dickson, vice president of Flight Operations and a 757/767 Captain. ``It signifies the likely return of our last furloughed pilot, and provides hope for growth and career advancement for current pilots.''
Delta recently announced that it would need approximately 200 additional pilots during 2007 in order to meet the demands of the flying schedule due to network restructuring and international expansion. These pilots will come from a combination of pilots returning from furlough and new hire pilots. ``Clearly, this announcement, coupled with our recently announced order for new Boeing 737 and 777 aircraft as well as the planned acquisition of 13 Boeing 757s, shows that Delta's plan is working and the future for the Delta pilot group looks bright,'' Dickson said.

Pilotyip, where are you?

It is rather pathetic, though, that no turbine PIC is required but a degree in some worthless discipline is. And yes, I have a degree.

I'm sure those hired will have some PIC. When I was hired at AWA there wasn't a requirement, but everyone in my class had plenty of captain time. We all had four years too.

Do you think anyone with an ounce of PIC Turbine time would want to go to Delta. They can't even get their own pilots to come back.

Quick question: I just submitted my information but I am in somewhat of a quandry.

I have four years of college and have completed all coursework but my degree is not conferred until I log 1000 PIC. I have roughly 900 hours of PIC. So technically I have a four year degree which will not be conferred until I receive 1000 PIC. Will this hurt my chances? Please discuss.

Thank you.

From what I hear. 3000-5000 trubine PIC will be the competitive mins for the 120 pilots they are hiring off the street. First interviews will go to family and friends. Of course military time will be about 2000 ttl.

Only a guess but I'd assume the lack of a turbine PIC requirement is so that people with connections and "others" that the company would like to hire can be brought on board. It might be just me but that has seemed rather standard for the industry for quite some time. Outside of SWA and a couple others.

Mr. I.

Speak for yourself!

degree in a "worthless discipline" ?

What exactly do you plan to do when you get furloughed from [insert just about any airline carrier here] ???

That's where your "worthless discipline" degree comes into play.

Get a good 4 year college degree (I'd recommend engineering if you can afford it and are smart enough).

It'll make a great backup in case you ever get furloughed or if you lose your 1st class medical.

Yeah, structural engineering kicked my @ss. Then again I had to be helped through calculus. I'm not one of the smart ones.

This is great news. Now I get to spend $65 for my one in a million CHANCE for an interview!! I already used my free application (for Frontier). Any guesses on how much of that $65 goes into the pocket of Delta?
