I think you've got it. When other pilots in conversation ask me about the 1900, they love that we hand fly these things to minimums routinely. I certainly will miss flying her once I move on... except in the summer, darn VCM.
Like you said, the fact that we have to constantly be watching our own backs from both a mx and mgt standpoint, much more so than any other company, puts us a cut above. Sure, every pilot ultimately is responsible for flying airworthy equipment and keeping legal... with Colgan, the pilots themselves are most times the ones that end up catching these problems after mx or cru sked has tried their best.
Hey I agree with all of you guys. The guys I flew with at Colgan were great pilots and people, with the exception of the Ice Queen during IOE. I'm just the messenger. But, you guys really haven't come across this attitude? Really? I find that hard to believe, based on the attitudes I been subjected to. If you really haven't, then good for you. Maybe I should start hanging out with nicer poeple then.
I have gotten some "i feel sorry for you" looks from other regional pilots. Mainline pilots seem to have barely heard of the place. They seem to have no idea what equipment we have and what not. These are only my experiences. Then when i say i am on the 1900, the air midwest crash is always brought up. Every pilot at every regional is different.
