I'm trying to find info on flying down the Hudson River corridor and then back up the East river sightseeing. I have the NYC Tac but all it gives is the frequencies. Has anyone done it and if so do you have any advice to make the most of it. I can't believe you can fly so close to TEB, EWR, and JFK and yet you don't have to talk to anyone. Any help?

Hey thanks for the replies. I went to Avweb and clicked on places to fly and found nothing. Can you post the link or tell me where to go? Landing Strip had some good info too. Thanks again.

I know the Hudson River is fair game, however, I don't think the East River will work. I would always check the notams and contact EWR tower (special freq) when doing the Hudson River thing. If I can remember the East River doesn't give you much room if you don't want to talk to anyone. Depending on how LGA and JFK are operating the East River will be out of the question. Good luck.

Fly South on the Hudson River on the Jersey Side. I think at 1000ft you are in the clear. Be careful around the statue of Liberty. You will enter EWR's space at 1000. Just drop down to 500' and you are all good. Fly north along the Manhattan side. (this is the common pattern). You can fly up the east river if you talk to LGA. They are really cool and will let you cross Manhattan at 1500. Great flight, enjoy and good luck!

I used to work at Teterboro airport as a CFI. During that time, I did probably 50+ Discovery flights down the hudson and up the east river. It's pretty easy:

You fly on the right side of the Hudson (sorta like driving). Annouce like a CTAF Using "Hudson traffic, Cessna Skyhawk over the Lincoln tunnel at 800, southbound" or something simular. Listen for the air tour helicopters - there's a lot of em. They're pretty good about annoucing.

We flew south along the hudson. Passing governor's island, I'd go out in the bay and call LaGarbage (hehe) tower on 126.05 and request a Class B clearence up the East river and west over central park at 1500'. They'd normally give it to me, very nice people.

Transition over central park and then turn northward on the right side of the Hudson. Fly over the george washington bridge and you're almost home. The alpine tower is a smaller tower on the jersey side of the hudson on the cliffs. Pretty easy to spot. After that you're on your own.

Check if there's a yankees game, that will shut down the corridor near the stadium due to that stupid 3000+ people TFR rule (or whatever it is).

Thanks to all those who gave some great advice. After I get back I'll update you on how it went and hopefully post some pics.

get the terminal chart....the problem is that when the yankees are playing (hopefully getting destroyed by the sox :) )...the TFR explands over the hudson and the corridor is closed.....i heard that from a FSS guy once when I called....gl
