Sorry to beat a dead horse if this has already been posted but I am aware of Alteon for the sim prep but can anyone tell me if there is an interview prep (other than what is online) that is tailored for the face to face panel portion of the Continental interview? Thanks for the advice.

Other than the online stuff and the consulting firms like Alteon, Emerald Coast, and Higher Power I would suggest reading up on the history of CAL and how they have been successful. Reference the "Go Forward Plan" and how that might fit in to your life.

We've helped quite a few there--lots of guys from the Navy, Exp Jet, and ASA...

I left you a message this morning regarding your prep. Hope to hear from you soon!

Use Emerald Coast, they were great for the interview prep....don't use Air Inc for the sim prep, spend your money someplace else, but definitely get the sim prep. I'd recommend trying Alteon as stated above.

i would highly recommed the sim prep unlike some people on here, I used Alteon, much cheaper and just as good as higher power. i didnt do any interview prep, and after the interview ( i got the job), i dont really think you need it, just get some stories together and listen to the gouge, its right on

How much technical did you receive? Examples?

It's simple, get some idea as to the "tell me about a time..." questions that are out there, then go in and be yourself. The sim is low key, they give you the profile, they want to see basic instrument skills and airmanship there.

Alteon was about $100 cheaper. Here is the kicker, Higher Power uses the Alteon simulator. Same sim.

I ran out of time and didn't get to prep for the sim. I am glad I didn't pay the $$, it would've been a complete waste.

That is because you are God's gift to sim rides SH! :D

It is a good thing I had a good IOE Check Airman for my E120 IOE...its the only way I was able to pass the sim ride for CAL in all actuality. ;)

Seriously though, I used Alteon and highly recommend the prep. Totally put me at ease about the ride and it went very smoothly.

I was sweating it a bit since I had not see round dials in 5 years. It still went pretty smooth, or smooth enought I should say. For piece of mind I am sure the prep is worth it. I just didn't want to get stuck in DAL and miss the interview!

My technical questions were "how do you fly a non-precision approach?" and "what's a VDP?". Like said earlier, I highly recommend both the sim and interview prep. Oh yeah, they also asked "What's lag pursuit?"

What is lag pursuit? Never heard that term.

If you do the sim prep concentrate on instrument skills because sometimes they use the 737 and sometimes the MD-80. I used the MD-80 but some have used the 737.

I used Higher Power for my interview prep. It helped get me thinking in the right direction.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the help. What is the difference if you interview in IAH or EWR? How long after panel interview in EWR did you hear back from CAL regarding the sim scheduling?

FYI...I was told during my interview that the MD-80 sim is going away soon. Someone apparently has purchased CAL's MD-80 sim, but the guy who was my evaluator didn't know who bought it and when it was going away. He said he'll know when someone "picks it up and takes it out of there." My understanding is that they are going to 727 sims instead of 737 sims due to the high usage rates of the 737 sims.

I've got access to 727 sims in MSP, MIA, CVG, and MEM if that happens. If they do switch over and anyone needs some help we will be prepared to help you out. We've also got 737s if they go that route, but I've also heard the 727 rumors too. Time will tell...

when you guys interviewed, did your times match up EXACTLY on the Airapps application compared to your logbook? If not, what was said in the interview about it?

No, I was off by 20 hours or so. Just make sure the big ones match up like total time, PIC Turbine time, etc. I'm sure they don't care whether or not you 300 hours in a Cessna 172 or 320 hours in a Cessna 172.

These message boards kill me. There isn't a 727 sim at the cal training center. At least not one that is up and running. It may be in a back room in a million pieces, but I would bet that they aren't going to get it up and running. I would bet more on the 737 sim. The sim ride is VERY easy. I wouldn't wasten a nickel on a sim prep. I guess you can't put a price on piece of mind.

FYI - no interviews until mid-end of summer.

Hey Bearcat...whah. Sorry to ruin your day by reading "these message boards". I'm just telling people what I was told. I don't care if the 727 sim is in pieces, and I'm surely not looking around during my interview, but the guy who evaluated me on my sim told me that. I think that is probably a reputable source of information. Let's see, would I rather evaluate someone in a sim that is probably maxed out with candidates upgrading (737)or one that isn't be used by anyone in our company...hmmm, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

I don't think airapps.com total times section takes into account if you and the instructor are both qualified in the aircraft under the dual times section. I may be wrong but thats where my times seem to change up the total time online.

EWR- 1 day, about 1 hr interview with 3 asst. chiefs. Go home.. Get call next couple of days, schedule IAH sim, or not.

IAH- sim, and panel interview all in one day, split by couple of hours.

Three guys just interviewed at the training center yesterday for a mid-June class date. I imagine there will be more.....

Did anyone bring printouts of electronic logbooks to their interview? If so, did the interviewers seem to have any problems with it?
