I'm preparing for an interview with Mesa; does anyone have some info.? I heard that there is a short written test; what should I study to prepare for that? This will be my first airline interview ever!!!

tips

hey, i'll tell you what i did. first, study the hell out of the atp written...leave out most of the figures, charts.....DO review winds aloft, taf, metars...by scoring well on the written you demonstrate that have HAVE spent time preparing and ARE serious about the job......know jepp plates and how to brief an approach.....finger fly with someone who is up to speed, low enroute charts also

be prepared with solid answers for HR type questions....drunk cpt, below mins...etc....

have everything required available....logbooks, certificates, medical, drivers license, FCC, letters of rec,

most of all relax and have fun...if you spend time and prepare you WILL have a good time.

Go to aviationinterviews.com where there are some good detailed gouges from recent interviews. Good luck.

concentrate more on the weather part of atp gleim's book and follow what other guys just said here.
you'll be well.
I am stating my GS on Jan 12th.

Info on Mesa interview...Hmmm...lets see....

Human Resource Question:

Why Mesa?

Paid $50 for application...
Want to sell my soul to the success of JO and his 15 motorcycles...
Will work for free...
Will do my part to bring down the industry standard down...
Looking forward to becomming a bottom feeder..
I want to be known as a sucker for not knowing better.

You're hired!

getting better...

only 4 replies until mesa is bashed!

:p

Instead of working for mesa why don't you go to Key west and suck Dik for beer money. At least at the end you will have your self respect.

Nah McPickle.... Just because sucking kok gives you self respect doesn't mean it will work for others....

LOL! Now THAT is funny!

For the record, Mesa make industry average. The best pilots that I have flown with in my career so far, were at Mesa. Mesa trains great pilots. After their ground schools, the toughest part of my next job was the drive to the training center.

Well duhhhh, the auto pilots always MELed so they hand fly across country. Of couse they're a good stick.

God I hate MESA

Really? Wow!!! Guess you never met these jokers.

True story from PIT last month. It's 8 PM or so, snowing and cold (typical PIT crap). Everyone's getting de-iced naturally. We're in the Charlie De-Ice pad getting sprayed. CHQ ERJ to our left and TSA (I think) to our right getting sprayed as well.

On De-Ice freq:

"Ahhh...De-ice...aircraft xxxMJ..."

"Go ahead sir, you ready to come in and get sprayed?"

"Ahhh...no...we're still at the gate, wondering if anyone's down there deicing anyone?"

--5 second pause--

(Obviously amazed at the question)
"Yes sir...we're down here..."

"Oh, ok thanks."

My captain flips his lid:
"WTF?! It's snowing in PIT! Where the F*** do you think they are? At home smoking cigarettes?!"

Five minutes of Mesa bashing followed in the cockpit, gotta good laugh outta that one.

Uhhh...guess again.

Here copy of something I posted a while back:

All pay rates are taken from the ALPA National Research Center available at www.alpa.org.

Prior to Mesa & CHQ getting TAs, the average hourly pay rate on 1/1/04 for a 50-seat jet CA with 6 years of longevity is $63.04/hr.

Comair leads in 50-seat pay at $67.53/hr. Almost 7% above average.

Even CHQ aimed above average, attaining just above industry average pay at $63.19/hr.

Mesa is at $59.32/hr. 6% below the average and thereby lowering the average overall.

Comair fought 89 long, hard days to set the bar for 50-seat jet pay. The goal is to raise that bar.....not lower it.

So, when it comes to "working together & fighting this" I think most small jet pilots are upset with their brothers and sisters at Mesa b/c they didn't work with the rest of the 50-seat jet pilots in the industry.

"Even" CHQ? I think we've been insulted...

Don't take it out of context old pal....it's a copy of an old post I made when some poor Mesa bastard was trying to defend what they did and it just so happened to be right in the midst of everyone giving you guys he!! for signing your TA.

My point was that even though "those" guys weren't happy with "your" pay rates -- they were still above industry average.

Sorry if it came off another way.

Could somebody tell me what would have happened if Mesa pilots decided to push the issue for significantly higher wages and work rules. It's my understanding that they were between a rock and a hard place with the anti-christ AKA JO launching Freedumb to counteract the Mesa pilots push for higher wages.

8628y,

I would disregard the negative posts. Guys like mckpickle are just bitter cause they probably are not going anywhere in the industry with regards to moving on. I personally have to laugh at him when I read his posts (I would suggest you do the same), I would assume he is just a old salt that got overlooked by maybee Air Tan or a AWA at some point and is stuck "still" .

As for the interview, aviationinterviews.com is right on. Study the ATP written, wx especially, aircraft systems, etc, etc, ... If you get Scotty then you have it made.:D

I'm going to answer that question with a question

Do you think Mesaba's strike would be an effective tool for bargaining (raising the bar) if Mesaba management started another non-union carrier that could continue to fly for NWA minimizing the economic impact of a work stoppage?

How about if Mesaba pilots showed up for work while in mediation and were told to go home because this Non-union spinoff carrier was covering the line...

Mesa pilots diddn't screw anyone.... It was the Freedumb pilots... and JO's politics....

It's hard to say....

One possibility is that with a much larger pilot group they will have the leverage and power to make a stand... Also after the freedumb mishap before, I doubt that anyone will sink SOOO low that they would join that mess. I would also like to think that ALPA would prohibit such a tactic again after seeing the fallout of last time...

Another BIG factor is whether JO will still be around.... Some seriously doubt it...

I'd think the next Mesa contract will be a good one, but again, much of this also has to do with how Mesaba, Coex, etc make out on their contracts... If they make out well in the new economy it will TRUELY raise the bar...
