Independence Air Announces New Non-Stop Low-Fare Service From Knoxville and Columbia to Orlando
Tuesday August 17, 2:00 pm ET Also, Flight Schedule to Washington Is Increased From Five Cities: Burlington, Jacksonville, Louisville, Savannah and White Plains

DULLES, Va., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Low-fare airline Independence Air (Nasdaq: FLYI - News) announced today it will introduce new non-stop service from both Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) and Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) to Orlando International Airport (MCO) beginning October 13, 2004. The schedules from Knoxville and Columbia will each include two daily non-stops to Orlando, with introductory 14-day advance purchase fares from both cities as low as $39 one way for tickets purchased at FLYi.com by August 27, 2004 for travel by January 15, 2005. Following the introductory fare period, fares between Knoxville and Orlando will range from $69-141 one way, and between Columbia and Orlando will range from $59-122 one way. Independence Air Chairman and CEO Kerry Skeen said, "Community reaction to low-fare air service in both Knoxville and Columbia has been particularly enthusiastic, and we're excited to introduce non-stops to Orlando as another new way to expand our Independence Air schedule in both markets." In addition to the new service to Orlando, Independence Air will increase its daily schedule of non-stop flights between Washington Dulles International Airport and five cities, effective October 1, 2004: Burlington (BTV) 6 roundtrips (currently 5) Jacksonville (JAX) 8 roundtrips (currently 7) Savannah (SAV) 7 roundtrips (currently 6) White Plains (HPN) 6 roundtrips (currently 5) Louisville (SDF) 8 roundtrips (currently 6, service starts 8/23) (Louisville schedule will feature 7 roundtrips on Saturdays)

Delta Connection to Begin Service between Knoxville, TN and Orlando, FL
Tuesday August 17, 1:27 pm ET Delta Connection carrier Chautauqua Airlines to offer nonstop roundtrip jet service twice daily

ATLANTA, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ - Customers soon will have better access to one of the most popular leisure destinations in Delta Air Lines' (NYSE: DAL - News) system with new Delta Connection service between Knoxville, TN and Orlando, FL. Delta Connection carrier Chautauqua Airlines plans to operate two daily nonstop roundtrips beginning Dec. 1 with 50-seat Embraer Regional Jet aircraft.

I hear the bell ring for the start of round one...IDE going up against a legacy carrier for the first time. Should be interesting!

I wouldnt say this is round one, or maybe round one in the second theatre. THey are already going up against UAL in IAD.
 
This is pretty scary.

Very scary. It used to be that the LEGACY carriers would go after startups like INDY AIR to put them out of business.

Now it almost looks to be the opposite. The STARTUPS seem to be coming after the LEGACY carriers to put the LEGACY CARRIERS out of business:(.
