Hey guys I am in the LA area going from airport to airport trying to find a job out here. Does anyone have any ideas of companies that are looking for a pilots? I am typed in the Lear 45, CE500, BBD700, LR- Jet, B737. I also have my GI bill to use towards another type rating if I need to. Does anyone know of a good company I might stop by and drop off a resume with? I have under 3000tt and about 1800 jet time. Thanks for the help

There are several 135 operators at VNY...try all of them.

If you're looking for strictly a part 91 job, you've got many more qualified guys ahead of you. Sorry, but it's the truth.

Only people from out of State say " Cali ". If you want to fit in say " SoCal " or better yet " Southern California " and please never say " Frisco ".

Typical pilots

It seems typical of pilots to say things such as that. I am finding out that pilots don't ever like to help each other. I have found many guys job and very good jobs at that. All I was asking for was any thoughts on my job search. I must have affended someone on here.

Terry--Chill out, dude. The current job environment is such that all we can do is make jokes about it.

My advice is for you to go get a job at a regional and build some time. It doesn't have to be high quality time, just bump your total time up over the 5,000 hour mark--networking and spewing resumes out all along the way.

You've already established that you are interested in corporate so going the regional route won't affect your corporate job search. IMO.TC

job search

I was just stating that there is no reason to be negative. A couple of guys were the ones who had to say things not needed. As for getting a job with an airline, I don't really know of any who are picking up pilots at the moment unless your talking about the ones who pay $20,000 to start and I won't do that. I don't have high time as you stated however most guys with 5000 hrs only have one thing I don't. They have alot of single engine time and I have none. I have been a Lear jet PIC since I had 1250tt and that has made it hard to build time. I have just decided I am wanting a good stable part 91 job. Captain or Copilot, it does not matter to me. Just a good job is all I am looking for. Thanks for the input though.

The total time thing is definately a problem for you, especially if you don't have connections in the area. You are geographically limiting yourself to an already tight job market where there are hundreds (if not thousands) of applicants with the same type ratings you have with thousands of more hours. My suggestion would be to broaden you search area and build time elsewhere while continuing to network in the SoCal, Cali, Southern California, etc... area. There are jobs out there but it's a tough business to be in if your not willing to move where the opportunities are. SoCal is probably one of the more dog eat dog worlds in aviation.

Good Luck!

Ca

I agree with you about total time. I make a nice fit for a good copilot part 91 position though. I am not limiting myself to Southern CA though. I am willing to move anywhere. As of now I live in Indiana. I used to live in CA so I thought I would try to find a job out here.

job

Just unlucky I guess. I worked for a few flight depts. that needed pilots and allowed a low time guy like myself to fly as pic. I guess you can say I paid my dues at a few not so good places. I am not sure having more type ratings is a good thing though. So persons see it as a negative.

I have to echo the comment, at 2700 TT and BBD 700 and B 737, how did you work through a "few flight departments" grab those types and already be looking. NO flame or insult meant, but, my god man, if they are throwing all those types at you stick around! Plus, if your version of paying dues is grabbing the types listed on your profile, let me pay some, at 2700 hours I was typed in a DO-228 hauling boxes, and when I wanted to fly something new and cool, they let me drive a caravan. Both great aircraft, but no B737. If the pay at any one of those flight departments is anywhere near satisfactory hang tight and build experience. The types on your profile are better than average, just your total time is not. This is not the market for pilots to get greedy, keep your head ow, and build some experience under what will be a VERY strong resume with ink liek that on it.

Again, not a flame, or negative comment, just look at the ink in your pocket and be thankful!

Ugh, Indiana. No wonder you want to move.

I disagree with you, Terry. But, you see, the SoCal market is a very tight one. Every here is looking for a good, stable, part 91 gig. When a good job opens up around here, it's usually only promoted via word of mouth. Only the truly selfless would post info here on jobs that they themselves want to have. Buddies tend to help buddies move up through the ranks here.

It is difficult for those without connections to get that elusive, great part 91 job. You'll likely have to do what everyone else here did - start at a crappy 135 company, move up to a decent 135 company, and eventually find your part 91 gig through the connections and friends made.

I think everyone here is willing to help you with just about anything you need, except for handing you the job. You'll have to network the right way to get that. You'll get the most help on this board if you ask specific questions about particular companies. Also, be sure to share info with others when they need it as well.

job

I agree with what most of you have said. As for the one guy who thinks I did not pay my dues? I flew checks and boxes also. I flew boxes in an old LR23 and also flew checks in old LR25's. Just so you know, I flew firepatrol, pumped fuel, cleaned hangars, and also was a Mechanic. As for how I got my types? Well, the company that gave me the BBD700 could not afford to have the jet and they leased it away as fast as possible. The other types are not all that great to be honest. I would take a G4 type any day over these types. I did not ask for anyone to give me anything on here. All I was doing was checking to see if a pilot at a company might know of anything that is open in CA. I just dont have any contacts in Southern CA so I asked here. If I know of jobs and I have known before I always try to hook someone up when I can. I am just looking around for a job is all. I never meant for anyone to get affended. NO hard feelings I hope.

Terry:

My post wasn't meant as a slam, just constructive criticism. If you are looking for a job in a certain geographical area, especially one as competitive as Southern California it is best not to look or sound like an outsider.

It has been awhile but wasn't there a big Lear operation out of Carlsbad that flew target towing aircraft ? Might want to look there.

Was this department recently featured on the cover of Professional Pilot ragazine?
