I could've made this a poll...but I know how y'all feel about those...

I've been an airline pilot for six years now, and I've seen a lot more of this country than I expected to. In my travels, I've found myself asking a question that may not have a simple answer. I thought I'd put that question to all of you:

Which is the better burger, White Castle or Krystals?

A double Jalapeno Whataburger, with cheese.

The ultimate meal.

Better than BBQ, but only slightly, and just about as hard to find. Luckily, God choose to put me in Texas.

:D
enigma

edit: What in blue blazes are you doing calling a White Castle a "burger"?

AHHH

Gut-bombs.........

they are both very alike to me, and it's been a few years since I ate at any of thse places.....

*gasp*

Surely you blaspheme!!

Krystal all the way! There's just nothing else that sops up the alcohol in your stomach after a night of good drinkin' quite like Krystal. (The one on Kingston Pike, right next to the Mouse's Ear is the best one in K-town)

:D

I remember one night, working as a freight dawg, we took a TX captain out for sliders. "Sliders", he says, "why do you call them that?" Fast forward to next morning, by golly, now he understood!

I have found (in the name os science), that a mixture of the Sack o 10(WC), and 4 chilli cheese pups(K), will produce..................... well lets just call this something not to try unless you are under the supervision of other drunks.

That is kinda' like asking: "where would you rather live, Calcutta, India or Lagos, Nigeria?"

Is it okay to answer Fuddruckers or Butte, Montana?

I agree with the In N Out burger..

BUT.. to answer the question. I had my first taste of White Castle about two weeks ago. WC make krystal burgers taste like crap.. WC all the way!!

One of the good things about polls is you can limit the responses. If you want to include In-n-out and Whataburger, you can. If you want to limit it to the Hot Fresh Small Square varieties, you can.

Although your mileage may vary considerably depending on the particular franchise you visit, how skilled their burger chef is, how fresh the bread is, and how recently the burger has been prepared, I believe on average Krystal outranks White Castle.

That's not to say that I haven't had a bad Krystal - - it's a travesty to humankind. And it's not to say I haven't enjoyed a White Castle from time to time. The biggest difference, really, is the condiment that Krystal includes as standard equipment and that White Castle doesn't seem to appreciate - - mustard. Krystal includes a good ole' plain cheap mustard to compliment the flavor, whereas White Castle will NOT put mustard on the burger. If you ask for mustard, you'll get little plastic packages of some kind of premium grey-poupon-esque mustard, which more resembles horseradish than mustard. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's not appropriate for these delicious burgers.

What makes either of these delicacies worth stopping for in the first place? The way they're prepared. The burgers are grilled on a bed of onions, and the buns are steamed over the grilling burgers. The flavor experience is unmatched in the burger world.

Oh, and another reason to prefer Krystal over White Castle??? The next time you get a White Castle, peel the bun up and take a look at the patty. You'll see that five bits of the meat have been removed - - like the dots on the five-side of a die. I can only assume that these are removed as a cost-savings strategy, as the patties USED to be complete, just as Krystals still are today.

Both Krystal and White Castle have frozen versions that you can buy in grocery stores and reheat - - both are horrible, and don't deserve the brand names of either.

Which do I choose to eat? The one that's in town. Krystal in the South, and White Castle in Yankee country.

The Ultimate Cheeseburger, @ Jack in The Box.

As they say, if you can eat more than this, you belong in a circus.
