I work for a small 135 company and we got a base inspection Monday and it turns out that the numbers on the board were wrong and my medical was due March 1... I've had 26 duty-days without a current medical.

I fly night cargo and go to school full-time durring the day, plus my girlfriend killed herself 6 weeks ago, thus further distracting me. Things couldn't get worse... but wait, they do. She's the boss' daughter. I had a post in here at the beginning of the year, in case any of you remember that (about school vs. airlines). Now things couldn't get worse.

Any idea how the FAA will handle this?

Flytheblue, my medical examination was on 2/14/03... FAA had the base inspection on 4/12/04 and found my medical to be out of date (by 1 month and 12 days).

As for everyone else, thank you so much for all your concern, advice, and sympathy. I couldn't have dreamed that a paniced cry for help with a medical issue could have led to such an outpour of support. You guys have overwhelmed me with your grace. I've never been so well looked after. Although there will never be a light at the end of the tunnel for Amy and I, there has been a glimmer of hope with the medical issue...

The FAA came by the office yesterday and spoke with the Owner/Dir. of Ops.. They had decided, due to the extenuating circumstances, to write me some sort of letter of repremand which they will give me on Friday or Monday when I have a meeting with them. It will stay on my record for 24 months, and, provided I don't do it again, will dissappear. Thankfully, the company will not be fined, and I don't believe my Chief Pilot or Dir. of Ops. will get in any trouble. That is great news.

I have been in contact with a friend of mine who is looking for help on a project he's got going in China, not related to aviation. I think I'm going to take a leave of absence from work and spend some time out there. The pay is good, no one speaks english, and I'll have some time away from this town. Perhaps it'll be good for me.

Glad to here about the flight physical issue has been resolved...
Regarding your recent loss...I feel for you and her family but I would encourage you not to blame yourself and don't give up on Aviation. If you are a religious person(if you weren't you maybe now),we are not given anything in life we can not handle. I sounds from your post you are handling it pretty normally. I would encourage you to get some grief counseling or some kind of support network and find something else to focus on. Everyone knows an airplane may be the last place you need to be in right now so I would encourage you to take a few months to clear your head and mend your heart. Just remember don't give up on flying...her death was not your fault. You have to deal with everything YOUR way in YOUR own timing...all the emotions you maybe going through is normal but it is what you do with those emotions can help or hurt you...good luck and don't quit...

Hey guys, take a look at the date of the original post . . . it's almost a year old. I don't think he is looking for any advice about the FAA action anymore, as it seems it has been resolved.

FlyGuy-
Thanks for the update! No real pearls of wisdom here to offer, but I'm glad to hear you are still with us and are doing ok.

Take care of yourself!

thanks - life into perspective

ShyFlyGuy, thanks for posting your experiences. This post has affected many people's lives and has a positive effect on everyone here. No one can ever tell you that they know what you are going through or that they know how you feel. Your story has helped many people put their lives into a different perspective and we all appreciate it. It is true that the big man up there only gives us what we can handle and gives us the resources to handle it all through friends, family, church, and even this forum.

Your web page is great. Keep the faith and trust in that time will help heal the wounds, just like of a physical wound.

Again, thank you very much for sharing your life event and I wish you the best in life and hope that you keep healing.

Here's to another year of growth!

Thanks for All the Love and Support

As you might gather from some of my other posts, I'm so touched by the outpouring of advice, concern, and love for some anynonomous guy named Shy. I don't know how I can ever repay you for how you've helped me get through these difficult and lonely times. I know that there are going to be times that you need someone, and it's amazing that we can turn to our friends here in the aviation community. I've even gotten a donation for my "Out of the Darkness Overnight" walk to raise awareness and help those who have lost someone to suicide. I don't know what else to say without making a fool of myself, but I just want to thank everyone who wrote me, publicly or privately. I'm proud to be a part of the aviation community, and I hope that you never experience anything like this, but that I can be if you should. With all my love, admiration, and humility... I thank you.

Good night,

Jon F.
(A.K.A. ShyFlyGuy)

I hope you're doing fine out there without me
cause I'm not doing so good without you
The things I thought you'd never know about me
were the things I guess you always understsood
So how could I have been so blind for all these years
I guess I only see the truth through all this fear
of living without you

Everything I have in this world and all that I'll ever be
it could all fall down around me
Just as long as I have you right here by me

I can't take another day without you
cause baby I could never make it on my own
I've been waiting so long just to hold you
and to be back in your arms where I belong
Sorry I can't always find the words to say
everything I've ever known gets swept away
inside of your love

Everything I have in this world and all that I'll ever be
it could all fall down around me
Just as long as I have you right here by me

As the days roll on I see time is standing still for me
when you're not here
Sorry I can't always find the words to say
Everything I've ever known gets swept away
inside of your love

Everything I have in this world and all that I'll ever be
it could all fall down around me
Just as long as I have you right here by me
Everything I have in this world and all that I'll ever be
it could all fall down around me
Just as long as I have you right here by me
