Hello, and thanks in advance for your help.

The regs say
"75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time at least 50 hours of which were in actual flight"

so i can get 25 hours in a sim and 50 in a plane under the hood and be good to go, Correct

sorry for the obvious question but i figured this is as good a place as any to get the answer.

Thanks
D

To operate as PIC under IFR:

Commercial lic, cat and class, type if applicable,
MINIMUM of 1200 total as pilot, incl. 500 xc, 100 night, and 75 actual or simulated (50 of which in flight)
Instrument rating or ATP

Less for VFR. These are minimums. An operator may require more. Also if in a commuter operation, minimum aircraft time is also stipulated.

The reg does not specify actual instrument time, so 25 in an approved sim and 50 under the hood meets the reg requirements. As a Chief Pilot, I would not hire a PIC for an IFR operation that did not have some actual IFR experience, especially up north with ice and all.

I agree with cvsfly, you don't need to have any ACTUAL instrument time in order to meet the 135 mins, it can all be hood time. Not the best idea to go into a job as PIC without having some good experience in actual IMC conditions though. Every instructor should be taking their students up in IMC every chance they safely and legaly can.
