If you have no union (no collective bargaining)
1. Is the contract between the airline and pilots directly?
2. Is there no contract at all?
3. Instaed of grieving a breach can you sue?

1. There is no contract. It is all at will.

2. See #1.

3. One could sue. Would you want to sue to get your job back? Do you have the money and time to sue?

1. No
2. No
3. No, since you have no contract they haven't violated anything hence, there is nothing to sue for.

100% correct.

The only nice thing about not being Union is that it is easier to sue for violation of labor laws. The Department of Labor has pushed a considerable amount of enforcement responsibility of posted state and federal labor laws onto the respective collective bargaining units. This complicates and delays any meaningful resolution of disputes.

That being said independent legal action is usually exceedingly expensive and you stand little chance against the army of lawyers that the airline employs.
